Jean-Luc Dompé

Get to know Jean-Luc Dompé.

Born on the 12th August 1995 Jean-Luc was born in the Arpajon region of France and is mixed nationality with the Ivory Coast. Currently plays for Zulte Waregem in Belgium. He spent his early career playing for French club Valenciennes before signing for Sint-Truiden, Standard Liége and KAA Gent before joining Zulte Waregem in 2020 on a free transfer signing a 3 year deal.

Typically a left winger but can only use his right foot. Comfortable using his left but is used to cut in from the left and has terrifying pace and trickery. Fans of Team Essevee see him as their only offensive outlet and see him as the star in their side. In 4 games already this season for Zulte Waregem he's chipped in with 2 assists and 1 man of the match award.
Interestingly enough for the first two games of the season he was used as a defensive left sided player and can easily fill in as a left wing back. However he impresses more with his versatility up top and can play anywhere across the front three. Burnley showed an interest in the left sided player two weeks ago but have gone on to agree a fee with a similar player in Maxwel Cornet.

Fans comments on the impending departure have been hit with mixed feelings and fans of Zulte Waregem are worried no further investment will be made in the team if they allow Dompé to leave this close to the end of the transfer window. It has to be said he's prone to injury and sat out a League game mid week with a suspected pulled muscle but this only intensified the rumours of his departure. Wages would not be an issue but it's reported in the local press around Team Essevee that both Middlesbrough and Zulte Waregem are quite a way apart on values and intense negotiations have been ongoing since Monday. Dompé could easily fill in left wing, left wing back and also across the front three given Warnock the ability to change games without using a sub. Worth noting he currently plays alongside Boro fans favourite Jelle Vossen.

Comments from the fans:
"If it is true that the squad will look very different after the break, this is a sign that some strong players like Dompé will leave and at a decent price. However, this could pose a (major) risk. We should not throw the baby out with the bathwater."

"Id is only 26, but is a bit injury prone. Will never play a full season.
I would be happy with 4 million."

"Dompé has speed yes, but always temporizes to accelerate again, the opponent is of course already in block and without Dompé we have 0 creativity"
