January Window rumours

Total football manager stuff, but here's what I'd do in January...

2 players for every position + a few extras.
Dieng Glover + Jones
Smith Dijksteel
Fry McNair
Lenihan
RVDB Clarke
Engel Bangura + Coulson
Howson Barlasar + Gilbert
Hackney O'Brien
Forss
Jones
Crooks Rogers/Greenwood
McGree Rogers/Greenwood + Silvera
LL Coburn

5 injuries, possibly long term.
McNair - contract runs out in the summer.
Howson - he's 35.
Clarke - will he fully recover/get back to his best?
Coulson - unfortunately not good enough. SELL. Add Bryant Bilongo to the match day squad.

SIGN RB - We only have Dijksteel, but Smith will be back next season. Sign cover/development RB - Sam Curtis, 18, from St. Patricks.
LOAN/SIGN CB
- I really like RVDB as a starter, do we need another starter or just cover? Either loan experienced or sign cover/development CB - Eiran Cashin, 22, from Derby.
SIGN CDM - With O'Brien out, and Howson coming to the end of his career, this is #1 for me. Experienced CDM. Who?

LOAN LM
- On the other side (RM) we have Forss and Jones who are both natural wide players.
Our LM options are great in McGree/Rogers/Greenwood - but are they naturally LMs or CAMs? - Signing a "proper winger" will give us more options to play these three either in LM or in the CAM role.

LOAN ST - I like both LL and Coburn, but are they top-6 championship strikers? Do we have the time/patience to find out? Probably not.

*** I'd also LOAN OUT Silvera, Gilbert, Sykes and Nkrumah.

We should only be buying players that improve the first team on permanent deals. That's the model.

I don't think we're going to be getting promoted so short term loan deals, which are expensive, are just a waste of money and we have to replace them again in the summer.

There should be no need for any panic buying. The recruitment team should have already identified targets and if they are available we bring them in.

We should only be buying players that improve the first team on permanent deals. That's the model.

Who's model is that? - It's not ours.

Our new model is economic self-sufficiency. Recruiting low-risk/younger players and potentially turning them into higher-value/championship (or PL) players to either improve our team in the future, or to sell on at a profit which can then be reinvested. Brighton and Brentford were years ahead of the pack, but most clubs now share this model - Sunderland are doing it too.

Buying players on permanent deals with the sole purpose of improving the first team is what led us to signing Saville, Flint, Britt. If/when it fails, we lose millions and take a huge step back.

Now we sign experience leadership on free transfers (Lenihan, Smith, Jamie Jones), but we also sign development players.
We signed Alex Gilbert from Brentford B, Terrell Agyemang from Man City U21, and Daniel Nkrumah from Leyton Orient this summer.

Sorry, bit of confusion. Our 1st team isn't particularly strong so players for the future doesn't mean not capable of starting or being regulars from the bench. We signed players like Lath, Rodgers etc who were expected to be in the 1st team squad. I wasn't suggesting buying £5m-£10m players but players we can develop who are already capable of contributing in the 1st team.

I was just suggesting that the model isn't one of loaning short term, expensive players and developing them for someone else ahead of our own.

In theory I agree, but in practise... Even after a bad run, we're still only 6 points from play-offs, and 3 points higher than where we were at this point last season.

If a few good loan signings can push us towards the play-offs and into the PL - like they could have last season - it's worth it.

This is where the maths stops stacking up because 6 points doesn't sound like a lot but in reality we have to be 6 points better than 7 other teams for the rest of the season (plus all the teams below us). The chance of us being 6 points better than the team currently in 6th isn't bad but the chance of us being 6 points better than Sunderland, Hull, Preston, Blackburn, Norwich, Watford and Cardiff isn't great. If we can be then it still only gets us into the playoffs for a 1 in 4 chance of promotion. We're 9/1 for promotion so 10% chance (and I think that's generous to be honest). Seems like pushing the boat out on loans is unlikely to yield a return.

Unless the alternative is to write the season off and reset for next, or take a complete gamble on an unknown - a few loans is still the better option for this season.

We can all pretty much guarantee at least one loan will walk through to doors in January.

I wouldn't mind the villa lad, Iroegbunam on a permanent deal. However probably out of our price range and unlikely to come permanently. Probably wants a prem or promotion chasing team. Ben Johnson was promising a while back, but looks like he is treading water a bit. Again, probably unlikely to want to come to us. Seems we are left with players like Lath, Rogers, Silvera and lower level prem loans, like O'Brien. Not great.

Squat pegs Newy ?
Duran is a CF not MF
Iroegbunam is a CM not a CF
No chance of getting Duran , Iroegbunam maybe
Worrall CH
McKenna CH
Kyprianou DM
Iroegbunam CM
Miovski CF
Would do for me
Simple clerical error.. the old switcheroo.. 'squat pegs innit'

I don't think we'll get Irroegbunam unless a midfielder leaves.. had his fair share of injuries too.
Sounds like Jhon Duran is going out on loan this January anyway

Worrall & McKenna sound interesting.. maybe a bit of paper talk.. VERY similar to Fry and McNair.. maybe a swap deal is on the cards?

I can see us bringing in THREE players, one striker and two defenders

STRIKER - this seasons Cameron Archer.. feels like we missed out a little in the summer here

20 Jhon Durán - 'The New Yakubu' - Aston Villa
or
36 Brandon Vazquez 'The New Viduka' - FC Cincinnati

with Matthew Hoppe - 22yo & Daniel Nkrumah - 20yo both going out on loan
RIGHT BACK - a position I feel we were left light in from the summer with the injury to Tommy Smith

12 Sam Curtis - 'The New Curtis Fleming'

with Terrell Agyemang -21yo going back out on loan Sam Curtis as Anfernee Dijksteel's understudy

CENTRAL DEFENCE - again an area of concern with Matt Clarke injured and now Darragh Lenihan out for the season.

31 Charlie Cresswell - 'The New David Wheater'

with Bryant Bilongo - 22yo going out on loan to get some much needed experience.

We do have a few anomalies in the squad with Paddy McNair coming to the end of his contact at the end of the season we might see a replacement in 17 Nathaniel Adjei - 'The New Ugo Ehiogu' or indeed Scott McKenna.. the prospect of a double swap with Fry & McNair for Worrell & McKenna is certainly an interesting one.

Hayden Coulson - 25yo hasnt exactly hit the ground running.. reminds me a little bit of Louis Sibley.. strong start and a stuttering continuation unable to seemingly find his feet.
Hayden Hackney is no where near ready for a top 6 prem club.. but their interest has been noted.. what a tear jerker that would be. Fingers and toes crossed for the return of McGree, Forss & O'Brien.. not many clubs would turn their noses up at them three arriving at their doorstep in January.
THREE JANUARY SIGNINGS

12 Sam Curtis - 'The New Curtis Fleming' - their manager has links to Hartlepool and it just feels like one of them. the irish RVDB
20 Jhon Durán - 'The New Yakubu' - Danksy's filofax is defo getting a look over this January.. 'the usual sir'
31 Charlie Cresswell - 'The New David Wheater' - we have been following him for ages, Leeds don't seem bothered.. something happening there imo

The Cameron Archer - 20 year old Villa striker aka danksy's dabble Jhon Durán
The Aaron Ramsey - 19 year old prodigy Sam Curtis
The Dan Barlaser - 6'3 championship big lad.. lets have a look at his passing stats!

Conor Bradley, Loan
West Brom, Leeds, Middlebrough, Burnley,

two loans with options and two permanent transfers..
Nathaniel Adjei, Nat Phillips, Ben Johnson & Brandon Vazquez.. good a guess as anyone else's

What do we know?

1. We have been linked with Right Backs, Defenders and Strikers.

2. We missed out on signing a striker in the summer and we have a right back and a defender out for the season.

3. Kieron Scott is looking outside of the domestic market.

4. Michael Carrick does not want any quick fixes.. players that fit the long term plan.

Young players? Permenant Additions? Currently playing outside of the prem or championship?

We brought in three players last January and now it looks like we have three spaces in the squad..

There will probably be lots of names rumoured but we won’t get any of them. We will then end up with the rejects.
Michael Carrick

20 Dexter Lembikisa - Wolves
31 Jay Stansfield - Fulham

Aaron Danks

12 Sam Curtis - St Patrick’s
