Jamie Vardy

I can't believe he won't get another year or 'final swansong' at Leicester. Also on 190 goals. I think he'd almost play for 'free' for one last crack in the prem.

Its stunning that he's doing what he's doing at that age. Right up with Howson in terms of his legs not going etc.

That said he's probably on 50k+ (easily). So will have to have to take a significant pay cut. I think he would to stay for one more year.

He ain't gonna move up here so it's completely hypothetical. He probably won't leave Leicester and will just stay on there, in a more and more limited role each year and they will just keep on cutting his wages down each year, probably similar to Howson here I expect. If he did want to leave Leicester, then there would be tons of other clubs more local to him, as Leicester is right bang in the middle of the country.

It's not like he'll be needing a pay off either, he's probably been on north of 100k a week for nearly 10 years, albeit doubt he got that last year. They probably won't want to be paying him 50k a week next year as he's likely not going to play a great deal, as probably not good enough for what they will need to stay up, not anymore at least. If they play him up top on his own they will probably want him as 3rd choice maybe?

No, I wouldn't take him here. When I've watched him on occasion this season it is plain that although he can still put in the yards his acceleration has gone, that burst that took him away from defenders. His physicality will only deteriorate now, at any moment an injury will happen that he will not be able to recover from, might be a pre-season kick about. Who knows? Too much of a risk. Obviously there is a sentimental attachment for Lester but purely on how much he could bring to OUR team on a one year contract (and what that would cost) it would have to be a no.

Would he risk his late career fitness by coming here though? The amount of training ground injuries we've had this season, Rockliffe must be set up like Kevin McAllister's house in Home Alone.

Also his loyalty to Leicester, all the others were sold or wanted to leave.
Only other one that compares is Steve Walsh.
Alan Birchenall.
Club ambassador.
Not the "greatest player" but clearly a vital "asset" for the club, especially his charity work.

It depends on how you define greatest, surely.

Kante was there for one season and ditched them at the first opportunity to go to Chelsea.

Mahrez kicked up a massive stink when they wouldn't sell him to Man City mid-season and stopped turning up for training in protest.

Vardy has been there for 12 years, helped them get promoted twice, was just as integral in their Premier League success, was a part of their FA Cup triumph, turned down a huge move to Arsenal to stay loyal to them, has consistently scored goals for them throughout that entire time.

All 3 are great players, Vardy has done far more for Leicester.

Obviously Lineker, though in of the PL era I'd have picked Kante.. I'd also say Heskey..

Vardy has been excellent for them but as a player he's not in the same bracket..

Shilton, Walsh, Worthington too..
Yeah, I mean Lineker as a LCFC player alone doesn’t come close. Nor does Heskey, that’s laughable.

I’m too young for Worthington but his record isn’t even comparable to Vardy’s in terms of achievement.

I think sometimes people still struggle to get their head round the fact that Leicester actually were Champions of England with Vardy as one of their best players. Why would Frank Worthington’s achievements even come close?

Mahrez/Kante - yes there‘s an argument for but imho it’s not an entirely compelling one.

Vardy not in the same bracket as Heskey?

It’s like saying Mark Viduka wasn’t in the same bracket as Hamilton Ricard.
Exactly. Some people just think that “older football” is better by default.

I actually asked a mate of mine tonight whose a LCFC season ticket holder. He said Vardy is clearly up there but he didn’t even mention Heskey.

That doesn’t mean Heskey wasn’t a decent player for them.
