Jack Clarke vs Chuba

I know hindsight is 20:20 but would we have been in a better position if we had just kept Chuba and signed Giles? With Lewis O'brien on loan. Basically the squad that Carrick inherited (Dieng instead of Steffen, Coburn for Muniz and O'brien for Mowatt). What a boring transfer window it would have been, everyone would have felt underwhelmed but surely we would have been able to challenge the top 6? Remember, Carrick got that squad flying - averaging 2 points per game.

Instead we signed: Gilbert, Engel, Bangura, Rogers, Silvera, RvdB and Latte Lath.

Looking at that list is just depressing. Of course, we would have lost out on £11m for Chuba and I understand why we did it but.... seeing how Sunderland held onto Clarke makes it more painful. Chuba was a Premier League standard player, someone who would transform our team.

Maybe the club finances dictated that he had to leave and maybe the list of incomings will look good business in 2 years time (I think RvdB looks promising) but in the meantime... oh, it doesn't look great.

Watched Sunderland tonight and they brushed Blackburn aside….Blackburn beat us easily. We are truly deep in the smelly manure
It’s thoroughly depressing

Did Sunderland even have much of an effort to make in keeping Clarke? Don't remember hearing anything about teams trying to sign him compared to us having teams after Akpom all window.

Sunderland had 4 shots on goal and scored 3 last night. A bit of a fluke. Blackburn should have gone in at half time at least 2 goals up. They had 22 goal attempts in the game, compared with 15 against us.
