Italy’s World Cup Hero 1982 Paolo Rossi Dies aged 64

Aw that’s really sad I loved watching Rossi as a kid and he prob started my love for Italian football that great 82 side.
 
One of the best World Cups and one of the best strikers, too young to die ,such a shame, so many tragic deaths this year both covid and non covid related.

I always remember one of my mates telling me brasil had been knocked out of the World Cup and Rossi has scored a hat trick, I didn’t believe him and back in those days you had no way of checking so I literally had to go home and wait until the news came on, back in those days that could be some wait!
 
Very sad news, he provided me with some great childhood memories. I can vaguely remember him playing in 1978, when Italy were supposed to be the best side in the tournament and then getting banned. However, one of the best World Cup games I have ever watched was when Rossi scored his hat trick to put out the glorious 82 Brazilian side.

I became an Italy fan for the rest of the World Cup and have always had a soft spot for them in international football ever since. Espana 82 is my favourite World Cup, with Rossi, Tardeli, Brazil, Bryan Robson scoring in the first minute v France, Gerry Armsrtrong for Northern Ireland and David Narey's 'toe poke'.
