The UK's top civil servant Sir Mark Sedwill has confirmed he plans to stand down from the role in September.
In a letter to Boris Johnson, he said it was the right time to go as the government moved to the next phase of its coronavirus recovery plan.
His other role as national security adviser will be taken by Mr Johnson's chief Brexit adviser David Frost.
His exit follows reports of tensions between him and senior members of Boris Johnson's team.
Dominic Cummings, regarded as the Prime Minister's most influential political adviser, has long called for an overhaul of the civil service.
And in a speech on Saturday, Michael Gove, attacked what he called "group think" within its ranks.

I'm not worried.
There is a group of like minded individuals, from all walks of life, black and white, male and female around the country who are working towards a better future that is completely transparent.

If the worst should happen then I'm taking the family abroad.

Would this group have a name and what will the better future look like, genuine question as the future I envisage is neither transparent nor better.

No. People are becoming more 'switched on' now. Especially those of us under the age of 45.
Patience is required.
Change is coming.

Bit rich these lot claiming groupthink in the civil service when you look at the homogeny of cabinet and indeed the insistence that every Tory MP sign up to the new mantras of the ERG or be deselected.

The younger generation appear more aware of the dangers of climate change, recycling resources and campaigning against racism and bigotry.
Lets hope they are the driving force for positive change (y)
