Spot onI wouldn’t feel too sorry for him, he had a contract till June 2022 didn’t he? Thats more than a lot of other Teessider’s will have If this current economic climate worsens much more
I don't feel sorry for him at all. Yes we all (well, most people) wanted him to be a success and yes he obviously did his best but why didn't he walk when we were almost certain to be relegated to League One (which would have been disastrous btw)? He obviously valued his own pride and ego over his home town club's future.
He should have walked, full stop. We were sleepwalking towards League One and he was in denial that it was even happening. I also believe he would have gained a lot more respect from people if he'd held his hands up, said he'd given it his all but it wasn't working and resigned after the Swansea game. It just doesn't sit right with me that he was prepared to take us down and see us potentially enter huge trouble financially, just because he didn't want to admit he was in over his head.
Probably not so much pride, as money. At least Strachan left voluntarily, allegedly without being paid up.you are right he should have walked but I guess pride comes before a fall.
Top players must have that expectation that they will succeed.
I think Woodgate made some mistakes that cinttibuted to his own downfall.
His appointment of Robbie Keane probably being his biggest mistake.
He neither wanted to be here or had any public enthusiasm for the area or the job.
He still did the decent thing when required though...Strachan had a bit of integrity when he left.
However I remember him saying ‘I don’t need this job’ at his first press conference.
I think Gibson had made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Too good, thats why he held his hands up when he left.
Mind he left us with a string of 3rd rate jocks on fantastic wages too.
I heard Gibson came clean in a fans meeting and was upset that Strachan said he received no money. Can you confirm @rob_fmttm ?

It’s annoying the old site is down. It was previously discussed on there.IF he said that, it is odd that he is quoted in a well respected regional paper saying the opposite. That would surely potentially make Gibson a fibber, or the paper guilty of a libellous story, one must be true surely? Gibson never challenged it as far as i am aware. I am sure he or his people will have seen the quote, was there a retraction or not?
