Is there a Tory senior minister that is not a loathsome cretin

We, as ever, are just catching up to the US.
Over there, the GOP (Tory equivalent) are being overrun by Trump supporting, QAnon believers who have known nothing else but sleaze, corruption and the outright celebration of stupidity from the GOP that started when Palin represented the old Tea Party.
Of course, the Tories being who try are, have adopted all the "best bits" of what the GOP have become while retaining their elitist, self-entitled belief that they are born to rule.
This lot, be they literate, well educated or just downright careerists are rapidly eroding the norms on which our unwritten constitution is based.
In a normal world they'd be voted out, never to see power again, but this isn't a normal world any more.
Take this comment from the EG in reply to someone saying that the tax on lifesaving drugs post brexit is wrong:

They have to fund the lavish welfare spending, bloated nhs, subsidised housing, free school meals and everythjing else the dreadful welfare state offers. Just remember LABOUR said anyone earning over £50k is wealthy and should be paying 40 percent tax.

That ladies and gents is why we are going up the creek without a paddle and heading rapidly off the edge of a waterfall and onto the rocks. Apologists like that, who think they can blame Labour for something that they have actually had no say over for what seems like an ice age are the reason the Tories can get away with everything.

Johnny Mercer.

There isn’t a leader amongst any political party. None you’d have cover your back in a fire fight. None you’d send into meaningful talks and expect a decent resolution. Labour, Tory, lib dem.

I voted Tory. I ignore a lot of the bashing on here because I don’t agree with most of it, but this one is boiling my pi55. He broke his own laws. I think he needs to resign but there’s nobody to put in his place.

Bashing?
Pointing out the failings of the Tories, their corruption, their sleaze, their lack of humility, their lack of morals, their overseeing of austerity and Brexit and how it has eroded the material wealth of the country and the impact it has had on the populations ability to for social empathy isn't bashing.
Bashing is pointing out that at least it's not Corbyn who loves terrorists, or Miliband who looks daft eating a bacon sarnie or even just the crime of being Diane Abbot.

It's not really Tory bashing. It's more a reaction against rampant corruption, our taxes being stolen, laws being broken and being lied to. He does need to resign. That's a fact. As for how the Tories replace him? It depends: Keep the current cabinet and choose one of those talentless careerists and stay down the path of being the UKIP+ far right party. Or scrap the current corrupt cabal and bring in more moderate, less dangerous candidates. It's up to them I guess. But the fact he has to go is surely beyond doubt now?

As others have said the current cabinet aren't remotely appointed on merit. On top of that you'd have to have a serious moral deficit (even by Tory standards to even agree to serve in it). So yeah the answer to the OP is no.

What is really beginning to **** me off if this line trotted out (usually by Tory voters beginning to feel a bit uneasy that maybe, just maybe, they've backed the wrong horse and been sold a dud) of "but who else is there?"

Or "if only there was a credible opposition".

Who else is there? Pretty much F***ing anyone is the answer. Christ, I can't stand the bloke but Jeremy Chunt would look positively statesmanlike compared to the waffling, blustering clown currently pretending to be in charge. The bar isn't low. It's on the floor.

Labour need to be cutting through more to ensure they remove this shower from power but I don't see how they're not credible. Or at least less credible than Johnson or co. It's not even remotely close.

So anyone who trots out these lines are either lying to themselves because they're struggling to accept they bear some degree of responsibility for enabling these crooks.

Or they're thick.

The only qualification to be in Johnson's cabinet was to sign up to whatever version of Brexit he ended/ends up with. Narrowed the talent pool immediately.

I wonder if Americans might see it the same way with leading Republicans: you drink from the MAGA cup or take your career out to the wilderness.

The right wing of the labour party have succeeded and we now very much have the American system of politics. Tony Blair of course succeeded with this and with Jeremy Corbyn we look like we might have had a chance of saving the country's soul, saving democracy. NOPE now we have the hot dumpster fire that is American politics smack bang right on our doorstep. Even complete with American born Prime Minister and until recently legally declared to be "permanent US resident" Rishi Sunak. Great to see we are finally taking back control - by giving away every single hard earned pound away to America.

Yup, the current law breaking and corruption is definitely labours fault.

Strange take away from that.

The Conservative Party isn’t even the Conservative party any more.. like the American Republican Party since Trump came in with his ranting preachers and reality TV show rejects. It’s gone mad.. it’s like America the cartoon on Steroids!! More suitable name would be The Jerry Springer Party of Team America.

Same with the British Conservative party, but instead of inbred hillbillies.. we have inbred Eton Boys all racing to play soggy biscuit with the economy and burn £50 notes in-front of the homeless!

BBC sounds have a great podcast on the history of QAnon. How it was set up for spoof comedy, then became something more sinister. There's also a mention of Museum Piece Moggs father and his dodgy dealings to subvert democratic process ( in case you are are wondering where his son gets it from)😉

Nah. Corbyn carries a huge responsibility for what we have now.
It's been done to death but don't try and hold Corbyn up as some kind of saviour becuause he was quite the opposite.
As for him 'saving democracy'. It was again quite the opposite. The Party was hijacked by the looney left minority and during that time destroyed. And now we have Tories running amok with poverty and breaking the law.

I have no idea what that means.

Hijacked by the looney left?

Strong moderate policies that were backed by the public.. like rolling corporation tax back to 2010 levels? Taking the rail back into public ownership which has been shown to be successful in parts already.. heck even thatcher thought the railways were ‘a privatisation too far’ - Comrade this Comrade that Socialist this that and the other. He was much closer to one nation conservatism than many including himself would have painted him out to be.

Why is having corporation tax to 2010 levels the looney left? Why is it looney to cut out tax loopholes?

Corporation Tax rates are almost irrelevant, they simply transfer the ownership. It's why Ireland is doing well out of a low rate.

Lie, deny and move on.

Partygate, bullying ministers, groping MPs and insider lobbying: the Tories have polluted our entire system of government.

Martin Kettle's headlines above sum up Johnson and his cronies perfectly for me.

zzzzz
they voted for Brexit, they voted for democracy, they voted against smug Labour MPs who stated that they wouldn’t back their leader, they wouldn’t back the manifesto and they wouldn’t stand by the referendum result. In fact they would campaign against the result.. turned everything on its head.

People didn’t want to vote for for MPs who refused to represent them. They voted for democracy in a better the devil you know type scenario. Now those who took part in the coop that scuppered the 2017 election and those that painted the party as the one of remain (ie undemocratic) now they are back waving the waggy finger offering nothing at all no ideas, no way out, no personality..
No opposition!
