Is the Riverside pitch too greasy?

A lot of falling over again last night by a lot of players.

Look at how Morsy falls over like he is on ice, then the pen kicker slips.

Norwich game Tav does the same - thats 2 double pen hits in the last 4 games at the Riverside.

Players were also slipping in the middle of the pitch. It could lead to extra injuries?

Are we watering it too much in the winter?

Yeah, I've been wondering if something is amiss with the pitch. Quite apart from the penalties I seem to be noticing 4 or 5 players slipping over every game in quite innocuous situations. Oddly it seems to be mainly Boro players but maybe I just notice them more 'cos it infuriates me. :giggle:

There's definitely something in it.

Warnock himself has mentioned it repeatedly in press conferences, so I'm not sure it's intentional either.

Does my head in this. Happens every game.

As chickenrunner says it seems to be our players more than the opposition.

You would think that the home team would be used to their own pitch and use the appropriate studs.

Always looks in top condition but you cant tell from looking how it plays, I believe it is a mix of real and artificial grass

Warnock said last night that penalty taker should run straight at the ball not at an angle. Sounds like drainage or structural problem.

Clearly there are issues, the problem looks more prevalent nowadays, well it seems it is anyway. Whether it is over watering, pitch stability, studs choices by players or something else, I don’t know. Warnock is aware of the issue, so maybe the groundsman has hopefully been consulted. It does seem worse with our team, if it is, then it sounds more like stud choice. I know one thing, none of our squad will ever be invited to appear on Dancing On Ice any time soon

It’s been like that for a long time because the owld feller used to frequently mutter ‘that lad needs longer studs in’. I remember him saying that for years and it’s two years since his last visit to the riverside.

Ha!

My Dad always used to go on about wearing longer studs, that and the slowness of the ball boys were major bugbears

I'm not Overy convinced in modern studs. I guess plenty of research goes into them but you do see many footballers slipping.

Also all these new fangled 'run ups' on pens add to some truly woeful misses. I very much in the 5 yard run up with head down and blast it camp👍

Ref - its rained a lot. Its probably rained more than average, but we have had wetter periods. The Club also seem to keen to put the sprinklers on even in the Winter. There was a time when you would see the sprinklers on in the summer months and late spring.

Ref long studs - there must be drawbacks with using a long studs that put players off using them, such as slower movement? more chance of certain injuries?

Its blades they wear, the Ayresome pitch cut up and was bog in comparison, dont know what they do playing on park pitches. Its these millennial people .. cant stand up soft as shoite.

I heard it gets smothered in Vaseline at precisely 3.43am every night. Apparently watching players slipping over gives the ground staff great giggles and they have a £10 in ‘who falls over first’ sweep each game (rolls over if no-one wins)
