Is Teesside getting worse for violent crime?

Mixed thoughts reading that. All what you say doesn't excuse the thuggish behavior outlined in the OP. As individuals we need to take responsibility for our own actions. Countries without welfare state do not have this kind of behaviour to this extent and are suffering much more right now than in the UK
Oh I meant to ask, which countries without a welfare state don't have issues with violence?

I'm honoured
Sleep is for pussies, or the way to get some pussy - I forget...it's an age thing...

We didn't get there - a combination of visitors and plans for tea that went awry as we needed ingredients we didn't have so a trip to the shops in play, but they seemed light on veg so a farm shop visitation as the good lady decided to change the menu. On the way back we did a wander around Tees Barage with the pooches, they liked it but hesitant around the water

All things considered not a bad day, hope yours was decent.

Well there are no countries that do not have problems with violence. But Asian culture is much more family orientated and older people are respected. Not seen as targets.
Welfare is provided by the younger members of the family. That has its problems of course.

I would feel safer in any EU country with a generous welfare system than in the US.

US welfare is not as bad as people make out. State pensions are almost double UK state pension. You also get the option to take it at an earlier age at a reduced rate. for those worried about getting to pension age.

Not just on Teeaside, everywhere. Usually carried out by groups of people who turn into cowering cry babies if your ever given the choice to corner one by themselves.

Pensions may be higher in the US tnan the UK but we have one of the lowest pension rates in Europe. But that's pensioners and there's not many of them glassing people in pubs. Support for out of work young Americans is not so good.

In fact I have just checked and the US pension system ranks 18th in the world, the UK is 15th

You should think about moving to that America place mate. Never any bother there.
I know you are joking, but I used to live in Baltimore, about 8 blocks from one of the projects, the city had almost a murder a day, that's what the lack of a social system did as the black projects were full of people in absolute desperation and poverty. It's shocking when you see that level of desperation, right next door to that level of affluence

Many asian cultures have current or historic socialist or full on communist backgrounds which have left a certain social and family respect. Countries can be 'family oriented' AND 'have issues with violence too'.

Only if you have a good job with a good 401K scheme. the poverty line is a hard line, and if you are born into a poverty stricken family the route out is usually through prison or death...i.e. violence

I mentioned this a while back and got shot down in flames. At the time we had a Polish man found in a shallow grave with his hands and feet cut off. That week there had been a knife fight in the streets near Albert Park, three different gun incidents, one in the town and two in Guisborough, and every week we have similar knife and gun crimes reported.

The mad mile was mentioned earlier in the post. I was involved in some of them gang fights, never once was a knife or gun used.

Similar fighting took place all over Teesside, and again, no knives involved.

Seems like the fuse is much shorter for those intent on violence. It's always been around, but how quickly it escalates now is very different. I suspect the propensity and popularity of coke and steroids on top of drink makes those that way inclined feel 10 foot tall and bulletproof and they seem to be primed and ready from the moment they enter a pub or wherever they go.

This happened to a colleague of mine in hartlepool he was sat at a bus stop after a night out when this bloke came up to him and lamped him. He's now got a permanent disability because of one punch.
That is so sad, what horrible people roam our streets no matter what town we live in & the sad thing in all this, those type of evil pond life usually live healthy free well into their 70's

I think there has been an increase in violent crime but not as much as people think. It’s just talked about and shared online a lot more these days, so we’re far more aware of it when it happens. Back in the 90’s, you would only find out about it if you knew someone involved or it was in the gazette headlines. Nowadays, every crime or incident is shared on Facebook within minutes.

Having said that, the number of people carrying machetes and kitchen knives on the streets and smaller hunting style knives when they’re out on the town is worrying.
