Interview With Neil Warnock

I got some really good answers from Neil Warnock today at the end of the press conference. He lowered his voice, apart from when talking about Craig Johns and spoke with realism but passion. He opened up a bit I think.
Am going to weigh up whether to put it on here tomorrow as a preview to the game or save it for the fanzine. I normally get one or two questions but he clearly wanted to address matters to the fans.

I think it depends how many articles I get tomorrow - but I have also got a really interesting article for the fanzine with Shaun Campbell from the Arthur Wharton Foundation - the first black footballer - they have painted a mural in Darlo and it is his 90th anniversary of his death on Saturday and they will be putting his name up on the BT Tower in London.

What has Craig Johns done to upset him? Ive heard it mentioned a couple of times

Very negative article after the Stoke game, most of it was hard to argue with, but he did come out with stuff like we were lucky to only have lost 1-0.

Which in fairness to Warnock, as poor as our performance was, I do not think that we were hanging on or that Stoke should have scored more.

So spill the beans then, a bit of pre match entertainment Rob.
We are eager to hear from Neil.
Nothing to do with the Stoke dressing room? That was a classic deflection, bit like the 1st goal against Swansea

Here is an extract -
Q: Does it often come down to the supply? The final ball in and around the box just being that little bit better?

NW:
Yes. It comes down to quality Rob. I am not saying our lads are not good players but there are certain areas. They say sometimes you pay for what you get and things like that. But I think you look around the league and I could tell you certain teams that I think have got a lot of quality in that area but you have just got to do the best with what you have got. Whilst it frustrates me, I am lucky to have this group. I think they are a good group. I think the club's fantastic. So, I'm going to enjoy it....

Think its a bit unfair of NW to start bashing local journalists for reporting the game pretty much as it was - really poor.

I've got to be honest too Rob, I think its slightly poor form of you to join in by printing NW's comments and making it clear who he's referring too. I'd like to think that if you'd got on the wrong side of NW for reporting what you had seen that they wouldn't start getting involved and printing the comments in the gazette.

If journalists can't be critical of the club from time-to-time we go back to the Monk days where the likes of Vic and Phil decided to stop going because the club had banned a colleague who didn't bang the party drum - and if other journalists don't stick up for their fellow journo's right too say it how they see it, you just end up with a load of watered down club promotional material.

To be fair mate it’s not as if it was a secret. Warnock mentioned him in his press conference too.

If you watch this - Neil Warnock in the first sentence makes it abundantly clear that hes not happy with Craig Johns assessment of the Stoke game and says "I was wishing he was here....".

Its in the public domain.

We [the fans] have previously had discussions on here about Craig Johns reporting the Boro - which is important.

This is not about whether Craig Johns has a right to an opinion......just because he has a platform on local media he also has the right to be criticised.

Reporting Boro [and any other local football team] involves passion and a feel for the club. Craig hasnt either of those: he`s been parachuted in by Reach.plc [previously Trinity Mirror] to do a job. Anyone with a degree in Broadcast Journalism or Media can report on anything - but you cant just turn up and report to local people like it was an incident on "Top Road". Being a good journalist means doing your homework. Its not like a Consultant passing on a diagnosis to the patient - cold and clinical.

I wouldnt want to be in his boat - and Im not sure he had a choice either? Perhaps he would like to tell us?

Watched the interviews , over 40 mins. Overall it was a great interview but I would agree that journalists should not have to feel pressure to write in a certain way.
It did seem to upset Mr Warnock.

Like I said in the original post, it was a minor criticism, god knows I've stuck up for Rob plenty on the old forum in the past.

I just think it was a really good interview that you had Rob and I'm not sure you really gained anything by printing the stuff about Craig. Its your call at the end of the day, like I say I just thought it was a bit pointless and didn't really need to be done.

I think that has got a bit mixed up with the separate point that I think NW was out of order for calling the lad out in the first place. We were rubbish against stoke, he has a right to report it as so without getting called out when he isn't there to defend himself. Poor form for me.
