Insanely cheap homes abroad

Staff often took 2 months holiday in the Summer and some went off to Summer homes and forgot about work (in 1980s).

That still happens - I worked with IKEA for a few years down in Malmo and for two months I either worked from home or went to their operations in the Netherlands - there was no point in going to Sweden as they were all at their summer homes.

8K ? well could argue thats over priced looking at it

Ha, I know that house. They got a bargain ... especially as it came with a decent parcel of land/forest. It's a really good village. Has a kurdish pizza restaurant, a community run supermarket, schools, an outdoor swimming pool/lido, a folk museum and, most importantly, a hat museum :)

I would have have bought it on the hat museum alone.

Hat museum you say, The lake district has a pencil museum, with the largest pencil in the world.

Would you be comfortable with leaving the place empty / unattended in the winter months with regards to break ins etc

Whose going to do a 200 mile round trip to nick something worth £100?

I don't expect many break ins in remote parts of Scotland for the same reason

We leave our place unattended most winters. The bigger worry is having a power cut, so the heating (which is set to keep the inside above freezing) goes off and the pipes freeze. I have a friend who stops by regularly to keep an eye on it.

Thanks for hoofing this thread, reminded me to look into somewhere.

Do you get any Internet at all? Would be a deal breaker for me with the kids really.

If so, could you use an electronic smart thermostat to keep an eye on the place?

There are houses on Teesside for £10k - no need to move to somewhere in Sweden thats 100 miles from anywhere

Wasn't there a house for £250 in Whinney Banks?
