Increasing our nuclear warhead numbers

I'd read recently that due to the age of our military equipment, low personnel numbers and the amount of military equipment we have, if Russia did invade this country we wouldn't be able to stop them without assistance from another country.

That is a disgrace.
Surely the point is they couldn't take us without horrific numbers of casualties. In the millions and therefore the deterrent as is works. Having 50 weapons, with half of them primed and ready to launch is enough to stop any invasion.

No shots fired between any of the nuclear powers since they were developed.

They have already invaded the country via social media and by greasing the right palms.

All without any deterrent whatsoever.
This exactly. I don't see anyone up in arms about the fact that Russia bought its way into the Whitehouse and Downing Street. In case anyone's been living in seclusion...

Why would Russia invade us? It's funny how people talk them up like they're these d*ck Dastardly cartoon villains who'll go out of their way to do something evil with no benefit.

We should get rid of all of our nuclear missiles and just tell the world we've developed a new disease. Why bother with nuclear missiles when a virus leaves infrastructure intact and has an unclear point of origin. Mutally assured destruction does not work if you can't be assured where the destruction is coming from. You don't even need to develop a virus. Just tell them you have. We live in a world of soup now, and we're still spending our money on forks.

We're going to the far East to continue our links with and carry out exercises with our FPDA allies.
It's nothing new, it used to happen every year. I did one on HMS Illustrious in 1997. We did a two week exercise off Tioman Island then into Singapore for a two week maintenance period (most expensive fortnight of my life, but had a fantastic time).
I'm privy to info on what's happening, but not going to say when, where and with who, just to say that there will be a lot of opportunities for interoperability with other nations.

Isn't that the point of NATO? We wouldn't have to.

It's time this nuclear deterrent nonsense was put to bed.

If a country had an intention of invading us the last thing they'd do is make the country inhabitable.

And the media enlarge Corbyn's hat and put a red Kremlin in the background while Johnson has played tennis for a fee with a Russian.
"We didn't alter the hat, it's because the screen was curved" 🤣

They don't want to invade us, they just want to break our economic strength, we are a competitor and they are comfortable with any means necessary to improve their lot. There are many countries like that, and to be honest we have historically behaved the same.

While gorbachov and Reagan were meeting at rejkyavic and talking about ridding the world of nuclear weapons the Soviets still had a full biological weapon programme running.

That's why we are in NATO

If we didn't have any nuclear weapons would it be a reasonable government decision to buy some?
Also.
How independent is a weapon system where we have to ask another sovereign state for launch codes immediately before use, really , I mean come on,really????Independent???

Is that why we are in NATO?
