Was over the moon when we "signed' him even though I had never heard of him! The allure of those foreign names was something else back then!

It is remarkable have how times have changed in quarter of a century. Signing any 'foreign' player was seen as something of a coup back then, it was just assumed he'd be probably better than John Hendrie or whatever. We now live in an era where surnames like Traore seem as common as Smith in the upper English divisions.

As an aside, if Adama Traore decides to play for Mali, he'll be the third *current* Mali international called Adama Traore!

Didn't he later score a 90th minute winner in a World Cup (or Euros) Finals 1-0 win against Turkey?
Euro 96 I think

EDIT: He didn't actually play in the tournament but was in the squad. Weirdly, I had a similar memory, but I think its cos Vlaovic (the scorer you're on about) was quite easy to sign for Boro on Championship Manager and he played for us on that (!).

Igor : Dr. Frankenstein...

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : "Fronkensteen."

Igor : You're putting me on.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : No, it's pronounced "Fronkensteen."

Igor : Do you also say "Froderick"?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : No... "Frederick."

Igor : Well, why isn't it "Froderick Fronkensteen"?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : It isn't; it's "Frederick Fronkensteen."

Igor : I see.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : You must be Igor.

[He pronounces it ee-gor]

Igor : No, it's pronounced "eye-gor."

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein : But they told me it was "ee-gor."

Igor : Well, they were wrong then, weren't they?
