If you were going to play for a club, who would it be?

Not including the Boro, what club would appeal to you the most?

If wages were matched wherever you went, considering climate, standard of football, getting immersed in a new culture, opportunity to learn a language, stadium and facilities, who would you choose?

Plenty of top players have the luxury of making this choice and I always question why British players continue to snub foreign moves.

My preference would be Bayern Munich. Most big Spanish or Italian clubs would turn my head too!

I still think there is something very special about AC Milan. Borussia Dortmund looks a fantastic place to play football with that amazing set of fans behind the goal.

They would be the 2 that immediately spring to mind, I used to really follow Barca closely but that was mainly cos of Messi and since he has left I’ve gone off them. Turned into a bit of a basket case although Xavi is doing well.

Rangers, all the union jacks and the history, culture etc
One of the mental South American sides, River Plate or someone mental
Villarreal, i loved visiting there, tight ground, small town, really good but unfortunately i don't qualify

Villarreal is a good shout

In the UK arsenal, a proper club trying to hold onto their traditions.

In Europe probably Barcelona - a historic club in a superb city with excellent weather. Roma would be good too.

Worldwide playing for Boca Juniors would be ace.

Out of three for me, fans and enjoyment = Dortmund. Nice place, tax benefits ( 👀) & F1 (for now) = Monaco. Craziness, coastline, fans & food = Napoli.

Not sure what I'd end up settling on, heart says Napoli, head Dortmund not having to move when I retire and looking at boats says Monaco.......

🤷‍♂️

Assuming my ability (or lack of) isn’t a factor, Barcelona. Superb city and lifestyle, huge stadium & nice big pitch.

I'm sure a psychoanalyst would have a field day with the fact that in a purely fantastical thought experiment you're worrying about tax implications...

To be fair looking again I've barely mentioned football at all! Maybe more to do with where I'd like to live and retire!

Again, we're all here imagining some ludicrous parallel universe where we're good enough to play football professionally for any club in the world, and you're just looking to retirement. You're not called Gareth are you?
