If we make the playoffs…..

And I’m sure we will, it will be a major achievement.
I think some people need a reset of their expectations, we were in a dire situation just a few months ago, what Carrick and this team has achieved since is quite remarkable.
We should be buzzing for what lies ahead, stay positive and resolute and give the boys 100% until the last kick of the season, hopefully at Wembley! UTB

Sort of get you.. but you readjust your expectations and hopes dependent on what happens.

When Carrick came in, of course play offs was a distant dream.. but due to what's happened since and how we've performed, getting to within touching distance of automatics, it's disappointing that we've fallen away.

Now isn't the time for standing and patting ourselves on the back for a great resurgence from the bottom of the league. Now is when you go into overdrive and get over the line.

Hopefully a few wins will take us into the play offs with confidence and momentum.

But if we finished the season seventh and had a flirtation with the playoff places, that would still have been an excellent season to where we were in October - think that's what the OP is alluding to.

Agree, can't let it slip now👍

If we finish 7th now I think it would be an absolute disaster!

Our expectations aren't what they were in October.

I'd be absolutely gutted and pretty angry if we miss out on the play offs completely, certainly not celebrating a 7th place final position because of where we were 7 months ago. I think that can breed complacency and a lack of winning mentality.

You claimed categorically in October that we had zero chance of the play offs this season, so you've no reason to feel disappointed at missing out on automatic promotion!

If we make the play-offs, I'm happy with Carrick's efforts this season, regardless of whether we're promoted or not.

If we don't make the play-offs, it's another failure, even if it was a failure where we played excellent football for significant periods.

Promotion and it's an outstanding season.

Totally agree on both these points to be honest. With that said, I think we would be in a great position for promotion next season with Carrick in charge.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be gutted if we don’t make the play off’s and as I said, I believe we will. I guess the point I’m making is the team that go into the play off’s on a roll, with a positive mindset and an upbeat backing usually does well, whilst those who miss out on automatic promotion frequently miss out.
Yes we want automatic promotion but let’s be realistic, we would have snapped anybody’s hand off for the play off’s back in October and I think we need to keep that in mind.
Getting into the play off’s will be a great achievement, a fantastic occasion and an outstanding opportunity we absolutely have to grab!
Stay positive!

Sunderland fans on their board were discussing Carrick and a few of them said that Carrick has basically just got Boro where we should be when you look at our squad.

They may have been saying that because they don't like Carrick and want to downplay his achievements but no doubt about it Wilder was doing a terrible job and had lost the players in my opinion.

I think Carrick has done very well and I love this brand of football but I will feel very disappointed if we don't make the play-offs, although I'm still relatively confident we will.

Yes but hey they don’t care about us.
