If they have these 'European football experts' on foreign channels

Do you think they pronounce British players and clubs in a thick English accent? It's hilarious when these nobodies on SSN are blabbering on about such and such a player and any time they mention their name or club they suddenly turn into Bruno Tonioli to prove they really know their stuff 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

What's wrong with wanting to pronounce someone's name correctly?

I always try to. Although really struggle with Dutch names.

That being said I remember when Steve McManaman went to Real Madrid and there was a clip of a commentator saying "EhSteve Mcmannmnm...." and then kind of just fading out.

Nothing wrong with it at all. But you don't have to put on an OTT foreign accent to do it. It's very McClaren-esque.

Maybe not, but sometimes it's difficult otherwise. Going back to my Dutch example. I always pronounce with an English accent but Dutch pronunciation (for example a soft "g") butbit always ends up sounding worse because it's not quite "flemmy" enough unless you out on a Dutch accent as well. To be honest I just give up most of the time.

That's fair enough if you're trying to integrate yourself into society in a new country, but it's really not necessary when delivering a report to a (mostly I'm guessing) British audience. I'm pretty sure you can say 'Atalanta' just fine in your own accent, rather than pronouncing it "Ath-ta-laan-taaa". I'm surprised the lass never bust out the stereotypical Italian hand gestures to put the icing on the cake.

Anyway, I'm aware it's a daft thing to be getting annoyed about, but that's how I'm feeling today. Bloody tired.
