If Phil Jones rocks up at Boro.

I wonder what kind of friendship Jones and Carrick have, I doubt Jones will play competitive football again so he might be thinking about the coaching side, Carrick came with some of his team but might want to build that.

He's had another terrible season injuries wise and I can't see him being fit enough, often enough, to take a punt, more so given Carrick likes a settled back 4.

He's been injury prone. Definitely needs a new challenge. I guess wages woukd be an issue. Although 'free' so would give a bit a scope.

He has been hammered for years at UTD. Yet I'm sure he'd look like a rolls Royce in the champo.

There was plenty of talk that he was retiring through injury but Utd honoured his wages and allowed him to stay. Didn't try and get rid.

Not sure you can have that much time off and still be the same player. Don't think we're in the position where we are that desperate we need to make this sort gamble of a signing.

It would have to be a pay as you play deal. Probably too risky though for getting close to any reliability.

he’s made bucket loads of money without playing, I suspect he will go somewhere where he plays every week. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him play in the champo. 1 year contract with someone. His experience could be great, if his head and body are right, can also play CDM

He's not playing anywhere, he has chronic knee disease. Ten Hag saw him play for 20 minutes in training pre season, then that was it as his knee flared up. He's 31, he now needs to know when to say that's the end, he probably knows, what we have seen in the press today is his retirement, He won't get through preseason without his knee flaring up on him, and even if he does one or two bad tackles will have him out again.

He could be a Nigel Pearson-esque signing. An expensive one, but still be very influential.

But sadly can't see it. Plenty of lower/promoted PL clubs (or relegated ones with parachute payments) would probably take a punt on him for a free......but because he's free he will get mega wages.

Mid - late 90s we'd be in with a shout. Now, no chance.
Not sure we would want him in his mid 90's

Not a chance would I take him. Clearly happy to sit at Man Utd knowing he would never play for them but refusing chances to move and save his career just to collect a big wage. We have had many players like that over the years and we certainly don’t need another

No from me. He's not been anywhere near the Utd side for years and they haven't exactly been gifted with the finest centre halves in the game (excepting Martinez and Varane).

For the odd couple of games when he's fit?

I wouldn't imagine there'll be a big queue for his services.
