If Engel plays on Saturday i think he'll get absolutely tortured

There is zero chance of Carrick switching to a back five
All a back five does is play to their wingers. They just play long balls over the wingbacks. No, let them worry about us. Do what we normally do. Keep the ball, frustrate their crowd (and ours) in the first half. Get to half time level then score goals in the second half when they tire. Same result, 2.0. (y)

Im actually more worried about Smith, dont get me wrong I like him he is a good solid pro but as I have said before we should of probably upgraded at rb.

Smith wont have the pace to keep Clarke quiet and if I was a betting man i would be putting Smith down for a yellow card at some point
If I was manager. I'd be asking lads to take three bookings kicking him

We don't have anyone better. So you've gotta back him. Rav does a decent job defending. Yet he's a CB and offer little going forward (that's not a pop).

It's odd that we are in October and still don't have a nailed on LB. Although ones been injured. I genuinely think Bola is better than the two we've signed. Although early days.

I'd take a draw today. That's a good couple of weeks going into the break. They are a decent side. So it would be a good point in front of 40k+

Clarke and Roberts are genuine dribblers. You don't see many of those these days.

I can’t believe all these claims of needing 5 at the back. No chance, Carrick doesn’t change formation and we’re not used to playing it anymore and it would probably be our downfall if we did. Could you imagine the psychological boost that would give Sunderland. If they thought we’d changed formation because we were scared of them. While also basically telling our players he doesn’t think they are good enough to beat them.

We need to be able to counter attack quickly today as they throw alot of bodies forward and are susceptible at the back. Jones must keep his place I’d be tempted to keep Greenwood in or play Lathe alongside Coburn for that bit of pace, rather than bring crooks back in. I’d also be tempted to give Bangura a start for the extra mobility, Though doubt that will happen.

Im not sure, i think there's an argument either way. Rav doesn’t offer much going forward but he appears a more competent defender. Will Engel really offer much going forward away from home with a tricky wide player to keep tabs on? Im not so sure. Personally id be tempted by the more solid option.

Sunderland are nothing to fear. Playing well at the moment, so are we. Player for player we probably have a better squad.
really. I was thinking for the first time in decades they probably have a better first 11 than us.

Due mainly because our defence is shoite

Agreed. Since I've been following Boro, we've always had the whip hand. 18 wins to their 10, going back to 1989. If you're of the 70s vintage, our record is even better.

There have been clubs, Ispwich and Watford spring to mind, against whom we've had long losing records by which I've felt a bit scarred, and even when losing streaks are ended, I don't look forward to playing them.

With Sunderland, it's the other way around. Only a fool would deny they've started better than us, but I'll be a little disappointed with anything less than 3 points tomorrow. I feel this every time we play them. Of course, if you play someone enough, every dog has it's day, but that doesn't change my expectation on each occasion we meet.

As expected 😉

I mis judged Engel after sheffield Wednesday game he is absolutely incredible talent pleased we signed him. He looks as good as he did on YouTube

Credit where it's due to Engel, he did have that one moment when Roberts left him trailing, but the whole team defended well, right from Coburn up front all the way through to the back line. Great team performance, 4 goals and another clean sheet 💪

Also thought he would get ripped apart today but fair play to the lad, seems like the confidence he got from the the Cardiff game has helped a lot, Carrick has played it perfectly.
