If Boro were to spend £10m in January...

If we can get quality loans from the prem that have already shone in this division I would go that way.
If we are spending money it's got to be a full back a striker. I would be happy to see us go for Sorba Thomas at Huddersfield. Seen him play a few times recently and he shines in a poor team. 24 and 6ft 1 , he's a strong player with good skills. Does he fit the model ?

2 goals and 5 assists all season - and I assume he takes all their set pieces.

that is not an improvement on Jones, Greenwood, Crooks, Rogers, or even Silvera

Loan or permanent- don’t mind. If we can get back the likes of O’Brien, Hackney, Forsse, McNair, Latte Lathe and Dieng with 3 quality additions we could have a good crack at top 6

10mil? Lucky if we have 2-3 and maybe a couple of loans. Those days are gone.... Thank God.

This summers signings were exactly what we need. Reasonably cheap and one eye on the future to move on for a few quid.

75% of champo clubs won't spend 10mil in 2-3 years 😂

I mean.. we might do. We were after a striker in the summer.. bout £10m worth..

5 goals in 95 appearances for Huddersfield - i think he’d be getting pelters in record time with a goal output like that here

We'd be mad to blow in £10m in January.
I don't think we will.

It was more about how would you split whatever money we do have.

Most popular seems to be spend almost all our money on a striker. Then a few loans.

It's interesting - I seem to be an odd one out in my thinking. Got to be a defensive midfielder that can play our passing game but is disciplined for me.

I think is a fantasy thread - unless we sell Hackney.
To be fair to the OP that was kind of implied in the way he phrased it. We won't be spending that kind of money for sure - not without, say, the rumoured buy-loan back deal for Hackney - but we might go large on wages for a Prem striker.

Number 10
I think we've lacked that kind of player since the days of Tomlin/Ramirez. Coventry had one with Hamer. Rodgers is showing signs he can develop into that kind of player but of course is still very raw. The kind of profile we should be looking for is seasoned pro from a lower top league/yo-yo team in Spain/Italy/Portugal/Brazil; the type who never quite got his big move or never quite broke into the first team when at a big club and has since been serving up quality year after year at Cremonese or Celta Vigo or somewhere. Someone not averse to a big UK payday now he's knocking on 30, and old enough not to miss his mum's pasta or whatever (but whose family appreciates the calm atmosphere and good primary schools of the North Yorks countryside - Mendieta MkII!)

That would be my instructions to the scouting department. Off you go, lads.

I don't think you can buy a difference maker for under £10m at this point. Especially up front. I would largely keep the money in my pocket.
Loan a gnarly old striker to cover for Latte Lath as needed.
Maybe buy a young player to become our new long-term right back.
Maybe, depending on Clarke and McNair, loan (to buy) a centre-back.

Rumour mill has it that Hackney will be sold to Liverpool in this transfer window, and then loaned back to us for the remainder of the season.

I’d be happy with that, I love the lad and would ideally love him to be playing premier league football with us. But I’d rather cash in while we can than be forced to sell him under value like we did Tav.

Pavel Sulc AM at V Plsen , age only 23 , £2m or close .

If true we should take
Tom Hill CM on loan or buy LFC ( Hackneys eventual replacement)
Connor Bradley RB loan LFC
Fabio Carvalho AM loan LFC
Han Noah Massengo CM buy £2m Burnley
Illias Chair AM £5m QPR or
Callum Ohare AM Ccfc £5m or
Sorba Thomas AM £3m
If we got Carvalho we don't need the above 3, unless it's a good deal .
Mika Biereth CF AFC £1.5m or
Michael Obafemi CF £1.5m
Ali Al Hamadi CF AFCW £700k - Hoppe to them on loan
Harvey Knibbs CF rfc £700k - Gilbert to them on loan
Hackney is back soon.. then hopefully O’Brien.

Lath is class Coburn is quality.. but 2 is not enough imo

Lath could play that 10 role like Akpom did last season.. maybe
On this thread someone says Hackney is signing for Liverpool this window and getting loaned back .

Bizzare January transfer to make.. sign a player to loan straight back out.. in January?

I don’t think Hackney is ready for the prem yet.. hopefully he can go up with us!

RB - Perm. Need a long term solution. Smith/Dijksteel aren't the answer.

Striker - Loan. ELL and Coburn are both ours to develop, but a third option wouldn't go a miss given Injury concerns over the two, especially josh and his hernia!

CM - Perm. But this can wait until summer really. We have 4 for 2 positions once Obrien returns, but realistically we can't rely on Howson (age) or Barlaser (quality) to be part of the midfield two for a promo push next season, so if an option becomes available we should explore.

*N.B I'm not slating Barlaser, he has done well recently and if that upward trajectory continues he will be a starter next season
