I won't be renewing

That's the one and all the TV match numbers are minimums. So, if we have a FA Cup match later in the season, for example or a postponement due to our opponent being in the Cup, the weekend match will be shown as part of the midweek coverage. If Christmas and New Year matches fall on a weekend, they will be shown.
championship clubs live at least 23 times per season. imagine if you are in the top 6 of playing really good football every week. you will be moved all over the place for weekend kick offs.

It's nowhere near the same experience, but just how easy it will be to watch matches at home legitimately is bound to knock off thousands from attendances around the country when the club in question isn't doing well.

You could semi-legitimately watch every single one of your club's matches for much less than the price of a season ticket, even if you didn't have Sky, just by using club streams.

Then there's the hordes of people who just watch pirated streams now, who will obviously be even less willing to stump up for inflated prices to begin with, whether clubs are doing well or not.

It will be way more than that.

If the new deal was in place this season, including tonight, we would have 6 guaranteed and then probably 2 additional matches shown on TV before the end of the season. That's out of 12.

I WON'T be renewing next season
I have been a season ticket holder since approx 1992, before the riverside even opened

I renewed this season at the very last moment, but to be honest i have hardly been to many games - for various reasons - but the main one is i simply dont find it enjoyable anymore , i cant remember the last time i actually enjoyed a game at the riverside
Its not just an instant thing with me, i have gradually been losing interest since about 2019 - and the appointment with Woodgate, and then Warnock - whom i cannot stand, yes i know i am in the minority here.
Carrick is trying to do a decent job, but the recruitment this season has been appalling, it seems to get worse every year.
I would much rather put the season ticket monies toward a bundesliga or la liga weekend, which i actually enjoy and watch more of on tv than the premier league or the championship

Thought you'd take advantage of the concessions pricing this year, T.

I could easily see a vicious downward spiral if enough people don't renew. Everything on TV, kick-off times/dates all over the shop, and, in Boro's case, ludicrous walk-up prices. Unless we get off to a flyer I fear the matchday experience will only get worse.

So sorry to be losing you from the Boro crowd after all these years Big TL.
Is there anyway we could make the whole experience better or is it down to the football and the price?

Good question! I think the club ought to contact every ST holders who hasn’t renewed by the EB deadline to find out why. Even a quick tick box by Survey Monkey.
If they’re interested, that is.

I haven't renewed yet and I'm still undecided as to whether I will.

The biggest thing which is swaying me towards renewing is knowing that I would probably still end up attending 10 games at least next season if I didn't have a ST, and when you take into account how expensive walk-ups are going to be, I'm thinking it would make sense to just renew.

That kind of sums up how apathetic I feel about the club right now though, the fact that this is my only real justification for renewing, it's certainly not because I'm feeling optimistic that we can do well next season.

I had no idea that much football was going to be televised from next season. No idea at all. It’s so unnecessary. Surely the viewing figures don’t amount to enough to make it worthwhile? I suppose they must do but it just feels like they’re doing it for the sake of it, because they can.

Again, where is your evidence for “in Boro’s case”? I’ve had a look at the clubs that have announced so far, and whilst it is difficult to do a systematic comparison, multiple category, pricing and the like (Sheffield Wednesday have seven categories!) our level of discount doesn’t seem on typical, as most clubs look to have a 15 to 17 game break even point. Looking at the number of games that are being shifted for TV these days. This is surely not surprising. I can’t believe many can get to 20+ games.

The bottom line is all the money is staying at the top in football. The EFL is starved and in a really bad place. Particularly the Championship where clubs are struggling to somehow bridge the gap to parachute clubs that are on 6 times the permitted revenues. Fair play to Ipswich and Luton last season for proving the impossible is just about possible.

The clubs justify it to themselves because they don't see any difference between those fans who watch live and those who watch on TV at home or in pubs beyond the revenue.

The question asked this week on here about people who went to Ayresome reminds me that it is so unlikely that I would even start going, as a kid, if I was approaching that age now. In fact I'm sure I wouldn't because my uncle who took me to games back then wouldn't be going.

And that is why they believe in the Family Zone where 600+ kids go free with their parents/guardians - it is a different experience there with special kids concourse etc and games and events etc - it get the kids and families excited about the match day as an event. Is it possible to do that elsewhere in the stadium or do we really just want to watch the football and watch winning football?
Obviously the Fan Zone has been a big success and all credit to Gary Philipson for making this such a great pre-match atmosphere. But could you possibly have another fanzone - there is only one Gary after all. Or if you made the Fan Zone larger would it lose its appeal?
How can you make it even more of an event, or can you?
What I have noticed this season - is people are coming a bit earlier to the game. This is my experience of selling fanzines in the same spot for the whole Riverside era. I would also say queues for the burger van etc are longer than ever. In fact v Sunderland it was the longest I can ever remember seeing - the club back this up with stats as they are selling more beer than even Premier days. This may not be the general perception. But it is the case. We still don't come as early as at other clubs I don't think - my friend who has worked on 3 different club's concourses tells me that. But habits are changing somewhat.

It's always been a results based business. The problem that has arisen is that the club are trying to make themselves free from previous crowd fluctuations arising from poor results.

By making early bird season tickets much cheaper than a simple renewal, and by hiking up match day tickets, so many fans have had to lock themselves in due to affordability. Fans pay well in advance then see the club's best players offloaded, form affected, results dip. This is where the resentment kicks in, and this season the demand for early payment, players being sold in an already weakened squad and multiple defeats have come in a pretty short time frame. Little wonder fans are cheesed off. We're going through hard times economically and all the fans are asked is to dig deeper. Not what you'd expect from a self proclaimed community club.

As for the Gen Red zone, there shouldn't have to be a family zone, with the way prices are all kids should get in for free or for a nominal charge. It's not as if there isn't room for it. And kids in the ground means more sales over the counter for everything else on offer, including club shop sales.

The EFL has more money than it has ever had but clubs are still overpaying players, agents and transfer fees and then asking fans to pay even more.

The difference between PL and championship revenue is definitely getting bigger but that doesn't mean championship clubs should be charging PL prices.

The clubs have the power. There are far more clubs that are EFL clubs that can't afford to compete with PL clubs but they are voting to allow things like parachute payments and other regulations that causes imbalance between PL clubs, former PL clubs and the rest all because they would rather have the revenue trickling down without thinking about it and realising it's causing the problem.
