I think I should be happy

I had a job interview yesterday, it went well. They have come back and said no to the job I went for but want me to do another job. I feel more qualified for the job I went for but hey ho.
Part of me is happy they have the confidence in me to do the new job I haven’t done before and part a bit miffed I didn’t get the one I’ve got years of experience in.

Anyway they are both the same money and the new one will be a change and new challenge so I think I should be celebrating right?

Change should be celebrated in this instance mate, they obviously think you are capable to work outside of your comfort zone. A similar thing happened with me when I started my new job in January and i have never been happier with a job. I was a soldier, office worker, salesman and now
I work in animal pharma having never done anything like this before.

That's happened to me in the past. I hadn't heard of the role I ended up doing but it really suited me, more than the role I had applied for and it has been good for me long term.

Think it happens quite regularly when they have an internal applicant they want to give it to but are forced to go through the process. Some times they find someone too good to miss out on and can create something for them.

would these 2 jobs roles ever have crossover? if they do you will already have the skill set for the role you didn't get so it will be a benefit for you and the company

Who knows - you might like this new role. Or perhaps there will be an opportunity to move sideways into the role you originally wanted at some point in the future.

Congratulations. Yes…you should be happy and celebrating. It says a great deal about you as a person that they have found a role for you.

Definitely. And next time you apply for a job you'll have experience in 2 areas which can only help increase your opportunities and how potential employers view you.

Definitely something to be proud of and definitely a case to celebrate.

The fact they wanted you is something you should be proud of.

Thanks for all the support - it means a lot.
Just waiting on the contract and googling how to do my new job 😜
