I see Stuani is still knocking them in for Girona

He could have become a Boro legend but sadly fell victim to the Monk overhaul

Stuani was never suited to playing as a central striker in english football

Stuani was a clinical finisher, but he was nowhere near strong enough or mobile enough to play as a number 9 in a physical league

He's gone to a slow tempo minimal contact league with a completely different style of play and scored a load of goals, good on him
If Boro fans think that just moving him to a central striker when he was here and he would have banged in 20 a season are deluded

Just seen on Wiki that it's 101 goals in 164 appearances for them. What a record!

Always felt he was never correctly used with him. I'll always love him for some great memories. That goal away to Sunderland, couldn't believe that flew in and the celebrations were amazing. Obviously Brighton home too!
Had corporate tickets in the S'land main stand for that with my daughter. Even though we'd agreed to try and keep schtum if we scored there was no stopping us jumping up in delight as it happens with dozens of other Boro fans strewn across that stand unaware of each other when that went in😃

Playing Stuani on the wing was unbelievable when you look back. Every person inside the Riverside could see he was a number 9 apart from Aitor Karanka. I liked Karanka but that was a prime example of his stubbornness getting in the way and holding us back.

The most frustrating thing was we had an unbelievable talent on the bench in Adama Traore who could have been on that wing providing the assists for Stuani. Some people always doubted Adama's end product, however I always felt give the kid a run of games and he would be unstoppable, as he proved under Tony Pulis.

That Premier League season could have been a whole lot different IMO if AK would have given Adama a run of games and used Stuani in his best position.

If we’d just kept our strikers when we were relegated and used the money wasted on Britt, Fletcher and Braithwaite to strengthen other areas of the team we probably would have “smashed the league”.

Cheers Monk and your bent agent.

Even Karanka knew he was a number 9, he just chose to play him out of position. From the gazette at the time (I remember because I used it in debates with people who were adamant he wasn't a striker):

Karanka believes Stuani’s best position is up front but will also ask him to play in other positions as and when required

"When he played as a striker in Spain in the second division, he scored 24 goals.”

"At Espanyol he played as more of a winger, but I think his best position is as a striker,” he said.

The problem was stuani and kike as well to an extent were sacrificed for negredo. Who was never the player we hoped he’d be.

Then that's where he should have played him. Karanka ditched a good wide man in Adomah to play Stuani there.

He wanted him to do what he did for his country. He did play him as a CF, but albeit too little, he really was the best finisher at the club, something I was adamant on, but loudly criticised over.
Really? You must have picked the monthly idiot open day on the board to express that view, I thought it was pretty obvious. What have you been told about ignoring what Nobby says? 😉

Whenever I stated the same I'm sure pretty much anyone who commented agreed with me!

Think it was more he tended to played Adomah out of position on the left, where he was less effective. He didn't leave him out very often despite the falling out.

Suppose the argument is we went up so the ends justified the means. Would we have gone up more comfortably playing Stuani as a striker? It's quite possible but we'll never know.

I think karanka lost sight of the team spirit that got us there ( the scenes at the dickens etc ) for his big name vanity projects - valdes negredo etc

Nope, I was sharply criticised by many. Some people with the benefit of hindsight did change their thoughts once he had gone. Maybe it was because I was also strongly defending Karanka as our manager too despite him playing him out wide, who knows. I remember comments like he is a waste of a shirt being made, I was called clueless over it. There were significantly more idiots on that board at that time though, I will give you that.

Oh and I never get to read what Nobby says 😉
