I’m still bewildered by Keane

I've never liked him since he turned us down for Coventry😉.

My dad saw him at 16-17 for wolves and said 'he's gonna be some player'. He still goes on about it like he scouted him (also Keiron Westwood when he was a young keeper at Carlisle).

Woody needed a Kevin Blackwell type as a No2. I just don't see the logic of not having someone who's managed or coached in the champo. He or the club may have thought a big name No2 could have been a threat? God knows😒

It was simply blind leading the blind.

If Robbo had got someone like the ex Man Utd full back he was after, or Brian Kidd we'd have been better for it, someone he could turn to when needed, I don't think VA was that type

To be fair at least he had Jon Pickering. Bags of experience there. Gordon McQueen too (although another drinking buddy).

The drinking culture was terrible even if not that unusual at the time. But at least Robson had experience in his backroom team. Woodgate had none of that and from things he's said it sounds like that was by choice. Which sounded arrogant and deluded at the time, but even more so with hindsight.

He was one of the pundits on the BBC live match (Wolves v cant remember who) and he mentioned that 'the lads at Middlesbrough told me his problem was that he was wild with his crossing' talking about Traore. That is the only time I have seen any comments from him about his time at The Boro. I am pleased that he hasn't gone to the press and slagged everybody else off to try and deflect blame, but has just kept quiet.

He went from having 2 jobs at start of lockdown, but has now lost them both, which must be hard to take for him.

It's interesting that we spoke to Steve Round, imagine that with his experience he probably thought that he should get the managers job before Gareth Southgate (i'm assuming that's why he left) Then for Steve Gibson to ring him up and ask if he wanted to be Jonathan Woodgate's No.2?

I'd heard we interviewed Liam Rosenior for a role also. Maybe Robbie Keane was the only one who would take the job.. and even he seemed hesitant.

Don't forget that Robbo and his drinking buddies got us two promotions and three cup finals, so they must of been doing something right.

For me Viv Anderson was a big error. allowing his drinking mate to accompany him to the Club. As big an error as allowing Gascoigne to buddy up as roommates with Paul Merson.

Viv Anderson used to take five-a-side type games in training where he was a "floater". Anybody tried to tackle him or take the ball from him he just used to shout "changed sides". About a ludicrous as Big Mal having 5-a-sides without a ball.

I was wondering if this was going to be about the band or the person as They are both equally bland.

But yes he caMe he did F all and he left.

I'm not sure I get this at all. He is a number 2. They should come in, not be seen and disappear. That is why they are a coach and not head coach or manager.

It is very rare that you get a glimpse of the impact of a number 2 on a team isn't it? I do not even know most assistants in football. Maybe I follow more superficially than others.

If he was doing a good job would he get the recognition or would Woodgate? Same for a bad job?

Devils advocate but..... Ashley Fletcher has more than doubled his best ever season goal tally this season. He’s scored 11 league goals this year, having scored 13 in his career prior to that, 5 of which were in league 1.
