I’d imagine NW is off after the season end

So if Boro had 6 more points, would they be in a play off spot?

No is the answer.

Good thing that's not how football works then.
For us to get in the play-offs we need the teams above us to drop points and us to gain them.

We are 6 points behind Bristol City, if we gain on them then they have to have dropped points and so we have gained on them in goals too, goal difference is virtually irrelevant if the gap is 6 points and it only takes a swing of 3 goals.

The fact that 4 teams above us need fewer points to get in the play-offs is irrelevant, if we "realistically" needed 7 points then we'd still be in the same situation.
We need more points than the teams above us, whatever you think the real total is.

Class Manager and Team, best we have had in ages.
Lots of historical issues to sort, left with not the best squad in the world, going through a down turn as all teams do.
We will bounce back, play offs maybe beyond us but a mid table season of consolidation would be a step forward.
I think he's enjoying himself and has respect for the club and supporters, wouldn't be at all surprised if he stayed another season to finish the job off.

I heard from an agent the other day (maybe not the most trustworthy of sources!!!) that Warnock will be "around for a while". He reckons he will be sticking around after next year. He also told me after about two games of him joining that he would be signing on for longer than the 8 games

Football tables are dynamic, not static views. To be in 6th place Boro would need 6 more points and a better goal difference. The "6 points off play off places" thing are just weasel words like "kills up to 99% of household germs" or "9 out of 10 cars preferred it". Words used by managers to make it sound like it's just a hop skip and a jump away. Or supporters who are hoping that the team can go on a good run and leap up the table.

Sure, if Boro had won two more games, and by more then two goals, then they'd be 6th. But that hasn't happened. So now Boro have to gain at least 6 points on Bristol City, and probably 4 or 5 points on another half dozen teams around and about. Given that these teams are collecting points at the rate of about 1¾ per game, that's quite hard to do.

The only time that "within 6 points of play off places" would be true is if Boro were 7th, with games in hand on the team in 6th.

Exactly, so we are 6 points off the play-off spots.
Whatever bizarre view you want to take, that is a fact.

I did not say that we were 2 wins off the play-offs, I said we were 6 points off.
You're the one who jumped in with a nasal "actuuuuually, it's more like 7 points because...", which was wrong and did not actually make anything I'd said incorrect.

At the start of this season did anybody really think we would be in a play off place by now?
The last two matches have been terrible then horrendous, but we crack on.
The alternative is stropping and flapping, which will do precisely nothing.

We are not going up, but we won't go down. In the summer some more expensive duffers will leave and our budget will improve as crowds start to return, revenue can grow and costs kept in check; we can build again as a club.
It is inevitable after the last 3 years of disappointment that we as fans would dream again after the slightest upturn. We have done, but need not lurch back to despair after a couple of awful performances and worse results.

Very unlikely we get promoted this season and I reckon that means a much higher chance that Warnock will stay.
It's to early to call, we need a big push upto and through xmas then we need to invest. Difficult, but we are very much still in it. 36 points in January and a few shrewd acquisitions we'll be right in the mix.

The young lads showing promise in the academy, a few months can make a MASSIVE difference. literally the difference between being a boy and a man.

I think I'm just trying to manage my own expectations 😁

The "What comes next" is what scares me after recent appointments.

I really hope that he gives it another season - whether we go up or not. He seems to have transformed the spirit of the club from top to bottom! I wish we had got hold of him years ago.

I'm hoping that even if he leaves as manager, that he stays on in another role - Director of Football (??) that doesn't need the same level of involvement

So true,

I'd love him to stay longer, the way he's got the fans back on board and the lads playing for the badge again is great.

Realistically he's retired countless times, he really does only have so many years left in him, but the positive for us is he has continuously came back out of retirement, showing he still has passion and desire for a job like this, hes also said that this is one of the best bunches of lads he's had, so you never know how long he'll stay for.

Think the most important thing is who the next manager after him is.

Like a fart in a lift! Under Woodgate we just wanted to stop the rot and would have settled for a mid table finish. Now Warnock has us settled and we've won a few games everyone's priority has changed.

Pretty sad some folks are throwing the baby out with the bathwater at this stage. Maybe it's lockdown, maybe it's post Agnew, Monk, Pulis, Woodgate trauma. Boro life is good, we're better off than we were last season, the boss is entertaining and the players are improving.

Britt has always needed to play with another striker and was doing well with Fletcher.. without him he's lost. Dijksteel was missed last season even though he was only just settling in. Hall is out, Howson is injured, Browne has taken a knock.. all compounded by our small squad and lets not forget somewhat inexperienced players.

Things to look forward to:

More Warnock Pressers
An all academy line up in the cup
A decent run of games to go at over Xmas
The January Transfer window
The Play Offs
Promotion
Getting off with loads of hot babes!
