Right or Wrong?
Prior to the pandemic I thought we should look at who the aid was going to and how it was spent. However I don't think the timing is right to do this for a while.

I think it's wrong to cut the FA budget but can understand people who think we shouldn't be helping poor countries when our borrowing is so high. They don't really understand the purpose of foriegn aid, but it is probably popular with Britain first types.

Cutting foreign aid, and still tied into financial commitments to the EU, spent over £400B due to Covid. Glad it's not me making the decisions, but if it were, I would not have cut the level of foreign aid. However it is claimed we will still contribute more than the any of the other G7 countries.

Absolutely right. It is from a bygone era and prone to scalping. A classic forte of the retired career politician. Blair Cameron and Miliband’s pie among others.

Wrong. If it's deemed by popular opinion (usually because of some falsely reported story) that it's getting wasted, then get the people who arrange it to police it correctly and make sure it goes to the places it is really needed and deserves to go.

We should be helping poor nations, but a lot of this money goes into the pockets of extremely dodgy leaders.

There are some countries receiving it that make sense and some that don't.

Why for example do we give funds to China and Pakistan? Both nuclear powers, China, the only country in the last 12 months to grow GDP.
It doesn’t make sense you’re right until you dig deeper. The aid in the way me and you would define it - giving money to a country with no expectation of a return is seemingly not the case with China. The figure broken down is seemingly spent in many ways to support infrastructure in China which in turn brings us a dividend benefit.

Why can't the Chinese do that themselves?
Again, the only country in the last twelve months to grow GDP and amongst the richest in the world. It's not a case of defining aid one way or another. The money sent to China would.be better spent on this country helping homeless people off of our streets or distributing more to the poorer African countries to bring them up.

Well as I repeat it’s money spent in the country to benefit UK. It’s not humanitarian aid.

Soon to become the words only superpower. I'm not saying it's right but it pays to keep dictators sweet if they are powerful enough.
