Hull support today

Couldn't sell out for a short journey! Feels like they are shrinking back to their historical 3rd division status. Pretty tame bunch aswell those that came.

They actually sang the 'mauled by the tigers' chant, I thought that was a joke one 😂

The 1st time I saw them at AP was the season they came up from the old 3rd div and they were doing well in the old 2nd in the mid eighties, they brought about 600 for a Sat 3pm KO, I was quite surprised at how poor their travelling support was, admittedly about 40 had been nicked in town and probably a 100 had been kicked out of Middlesbrough by the police but even then I was expecting a lot more. I have gone to two opening matches of the Season at Exeter in the 00"s when Hull have been the opposition and they brought loads down, about 1300-1500 both times, so maybe our historical bad rep stops a lot of family type Hull fans from coming.

It was against Hull in about 1967/8 I saw trouble for the first time. I was in the boys end before jumping over the wall there were fights all over in front of me. It was one of the few times I stayed where I was. I was frightened stiff.

I was in the Boys end around this time. Remember Hull fans in the Boys End - one fat youth had 4 or 5 different coloured scarfs on, Boro Boot Boys came in and he quickly hid all scarfs - apart from a red and white one!Funny incident!

Given where they are, what has happened to them recently and their woeful home support, it wasn't a bad turn out from a rugby city.

You would imagine a decent sized city, home to just one football club and a reasonably large surrounding area should be able to muster a far better support in general than they do.

There were some fans with a cardboard sign - saying Hull City On The Up - and they are again.
The last owner, Assam Allam, virtually declared war on the fans and was seemingly on a long-term mission to drive the club down and down. He had no concessions in the stadium at one point and the Premier League were poised for legal action against him. In the end he had limited concessions for juniors and OAPS in very limited areas. But he forced whole areas of the stadium to move seats and forced some to pay excessive price hikes.
I wonder if next season will see a massive resurgence at Hull City. Will they revert to season tickets again from the rip off annual direct debits (they actually continued these payments through the first covid lockdown) - it might be a good opportunity for them to get loads of fans back that were driven out of the club.
They made plenty of noise yesterday and you can sense they believe they are slowly fighting their way back again after suffering several years with a tyrant in charge.

I grew up not far from Hull and every fan I know, mosy ST's, stopped going because of the Allam's. They were pleased to get new ownership, but not willing to go back instantly, maybe next year they said.

I was there too. I actually remember that lad with all the scarves.

Can’t really blame them after the few years they have had. Definitely wasn’t a bad following and made more noise than most teams that come here

That's the case with me and I boycotted for years. After many years away you get used to doing other things on a Saturday and then it's a struggle to continually find the time to go to games again, especially if you have a new family.

You just get out of the habit of going.
