Howson

I actually think he looks our best option at CB if Fry isn't available. Pretty much flawless performance last night.
I agree. More aggressive than McNair, he’s small so doesn’t go for the aerial duals but he’s clever as he will get physical with the striker so they can’t head it cleanly, and he’s good at nipping in front of the striker when ball comes into feet and as we know also very good on the ball and starting attacks.

He did look really assured last night playing there.

His reading of play is fantastic at times, numerous times last night they were trying to a play a long through ball through and he just stepped up straight away to cut it off and intercept it. Says a lot about him that he can be played out of position at centre back and I don't feel especially worried about it.

Luton's strikers are probably the 2 most physical strikers he will face in the division and he handled both of them very well.

He looked assured and in control at all times. I think having Lenihan by his side helps.

Still need Fry back ASAP as Howson in midfield is huge, however, I'm not half as worried as I was a week ago when I thought we may end up with only Lenihan as our fit CB going into the play offs.

The performances of Mowatt and Barlaser in midfield help too.

He's demonstrating that if your reading of the game is good enough, you don't need to be a giant to play well at a centre back. And his reading of the game is exceptional.

He's only an inch shorter than Southgate, same height as Puyol and taller than former world player of the year Fabio Cannavaro.

From the few games I've seen him at CB I think he's the best CB the club.

That's not saying Lenihan and Fry aren't exceptional as well.

With Howson and Lenihan at the back it effectively gives us 4 central midfielders. The way we were easily slicing through their press was brilliant, no wonder Edwards looked shell shocked.

If we had Chuba and either McGree, Forss or Ramsey on instead of Bola and Crooks then we win that game about 5-2.

Yeah, I agree if some of those chances that fell to Crooks, fell to Forss or Chuba, then we'd have scored 1 or 2 more goals, if not more.

Hope Forss or Mcgree (hopefully both) are fit for the play offs. They're huge for our attacking play and pressing.

He seemed to let lennihan do the donkey work while he marshalled the defence and cleared up.. even got a few headers in above taller players..

Def my man of the match just shading over Barlaser…

The player we need to recover most is Ramsey, especially at Wembley in a big final if we make it.
You need players with class, the big matches are their stage. Ramsey, Akpom and Archer will win the match at Wembley if fit.
