Howson - yellow

Start him and hopefully find ourselves in a comfortable position 60 mins in then swap for Barlaser.

A win tomorrow night is far more important than a potential ban for Johnny further down the line.

Also tomorrow is possibly our toughest of the next 3 games so i'd rather have our first choice CM pairing in for that game, even at the expense of him potentially missing the following 2.

If gets suspended, it'll be a 2 match ban, so there is at least some logic in not playing him (though I'd personally start him)
And this is why I think we’d be better starting Barlasar tomorrow and bringing on Howson if needed.

As for Howsons yellows, from memory I think most of them have been tactical fouls when we’ve been outnumbered on the break. Not really much he can change in his game about most of the as it was the right thing to do for the team.

This is why having a good squad is important

Play your best team, and when issues arise (injuries, bans) the squad players have the opportunity to step up and make the spot their own

Does MC envisage resting JH for either of the next 2 matches?

If so, I can understand making it this one.

If he sees him starting both, then I agree about not worrying about the yellow.

He's our very own 'Luka Modric' lite, seems to go on forever without his form dipping too much. I have concerns over whether he can cut it in the prem (along with a few others), but that's a topic for another day. Play him I say!

His best game of last season was probably against Spurs though so nothing to say he wouldn't actually look even better in the prem.

His role may well to become someone who drives people on in training to life their levels which in turn drives people on, on matchdays. I think his overall experience will be vital whatever division we are in next season.
