Howson out

He's going to be out for 2 - 4 weeks. This is a massive blow, but feels like it was only a matter of time.

We have severel players who pretty much play week in week out and every minute.

I fully expect Paddy or Fry to break down at some point. To think paddy played 3 games in 9 days for Ireland on top of his Boro work load.

The one thing we could say his maybe Howson being out may give us an option of a slightly more offensive replacement? I'm sure Tav will come in tomorrow.

Millwall ain't won in 9 (6 draws). It has to be front foot and 3 points👍

The younger players should be fine.

This an opportunity to put an attacking player in and go for it a bit more

Squad update...

Neil Warnock will be without Jonny Howson and Nathan Wood for Saturday's match against Millwall, with the former facing a few weeks on the sidelines.

Wood withdrew from Boro's travelling party ahead of the match against Preston on Wednesday, while midfielder Howson was forced off during it with a hamstring problem.

"Jonny will be out for a while," Warnock confirmed

"We're not sure if its a two-week or a four-week, at his age there is always going to be something shows on a scan, so we’re going to send it for a second opinion.

"He’s had it for a few weeks.

"It’s a blow, but we knew that. He’s one of the major influences on the team. But we have a lot of games coming up and we can’t dwell on it."

Meanwhile, young defender Wood will spend a period away from Rockliffe.

"Nathan Wood has to self-isolate, his girlfriend has contracted the virus.

"It’s another disappointment at a time we don’t need it - he might well have played tomorrow, Woodsy.

"I’ve had it so I can’t pick on anyone, and I've said before how important it is we keep adhering to the rules."

Another absentee is set to step up his recovery at the training ground this morning.

"Anfernee Dijksteel hasn’t sprinted yet, we decided to give him another 24 hours," Warnock said.

"He’ll probably do that this morning.

"He’s not seen any affect normal jogging, but you don’t with hamstrings. We’ve just got to be careful."

Spence in for Bola?
Bola was blummin awful the other night - though Im not a huge Spence fan. Hes OK when he uses his pace.

It is a big blow - not sure about matter of time, Howson has proven very resilient against injuries and by all accounts very careful in training and managed well in that way by the club. But maybe inevitable that there will be many more such injuries playing twice a week after week.
Oh I see what you mean with Warnock saying Howson had been carrying the injury for a while.

I think Warnock will go for 4-2-3-1 against Millwall

-----------Bettinelli-----------
Dijksteel--Fry--McNair--Bola
-------Morsy--Saville---------
---Tav--Watmore--Johnson--
------------Akpom-----------

Maybe swap Spence for Dijksteel for Spence.. we're starting to get into the territory of the team picking itself which we saw under Pulis and Woodgate brought us some of our best games forcing us to play 5-3-2

Defo time to rattle the can for the Academy players and i'd love to see an all academy side in the cup.

Didn't Warnock say that with our under par squad we stood a chance of injury decimating us in the jam packed December programme?
This has been rather compounded by the negligible effect of our "goalscorers" recently.

Fortunately we're still looking at the top of the table rather than the bottom, but this could quickly change if 17th position Millwall beat us and catch us up.
Come on Boro, we can surely put out 11 to win on Saturday and start the climb back up.

I thought reading Warnock that Dijksteel was unlikely to be ready for tomorrow? I would be tempted to go with wing backs tomorrow and maybe stick Bola in a back three with Spence and Coulson/Johnson as wing backs, two up top in that formation Britt/Chubba and Watmore/Roberts. Not a lot to choose from though, hopefully one of the under 23s can take the opportunity to step up!

We are truly grasping at straws naming Watmore as a loan CF. I don't think he's ever scored more than 5-6 in a season😂. He's definitely the best option to support the other 2 forwards (used loosely).

I would go with Britt up top. He at least gets into positions to miss. Although his attempts at heading are bizzare at best. Just jumps into the defender.
