Chris Cooke has been very proactive Newy.
Total coincidence here but something that will interest you. He was knocking on doors in my street and listening and talking. It was just after the Westgarth closed. I told him many of us were devaststed about the sudden lack of venues and live music opportunities in Middlesbrough. Remember I have been involved in live music in Boro since Mbro Music Collective in the 1980s. This is the worst crisis since then.
Chris Cooke went away met with many people. We met again a few weeks ago and he was putting together a pathway strategy for live music acts from starter venue to more established to bigger acts.
I was impressed how he listened and then went away and talked and started to develop a strategy to actually benefit the grass roots.
I know you are a big live music and comedy fan too.

I’m a big fan of not having Andy Preston as our mayor too!!
 
I'm from TS6 so technically not Middlesbrough but the town center is pretty much dead, shops closing left right and centre. The surrounding areas are a dump. 1 thing i have noticed is the bus station signs and tvs have been turned off to save money, can't be good for the older generation who don't use smart phones and rely on that for information.
 
When he signed from Hull I thought he’d bag loads of goals, but only managed 3, glad we offloaded him to Celtic really.

On the subject of Houchen have you read the latest in Darlington? The football club basically saying if the Tories are removed then that puts an end to the new stadium they hope to build ready for 24/25 season.

That's not what they said - they did say that it might take longer if the administration changes.

Preston is very good at playing the social media game. My wife follows him on Facebook and thinks he is doing a great job based on his posts. Not that we now live in MIddlesbrough but I am sure this is reflected by a lot of those that do and only get his side of the story.

And on a less important point when did we start using "center" as the spelling for "centre" ?

Center - when we started using American English Spell Check.
There was a petition last week about anti social behaviour in East Middlesbrough - or rather anti social "behavior"

He's out and about every day, he posts on social media all the time, but there's not much click bait in what he does so much goes unnoticed
 
Town centre has got worse, but it's going to, it can't fight the internet, and that's who it's fighting against, for the shops at least.

I'm not sure how we can measure how much worse its got, compared to how much worse we could have expected it to get? Throwing money at it won't solve the problem either, you can't force shops to open and fail, and the council can't really put money in peoples pockets to spend in them. Same applies to pubs, and we can't force them to to stay open and force people to get boozed up in them etc. The town centre is often a reflection of what makes up the rest of the town, and we're not in an affluent place.

There should be another edge to that sword mind, where some areas fail, other areas improve, but they really haven't in Teesside, the other areas have stayed about the same I think, overall it's a big loss.

How we've sold off land and given away assets absolutely stinks.

Preston is like many, starts off as Labour but when they get a bit of cash in their back pocket or see the dark side they slowly transition into a Tory (don't be fooled by the "independent" tag). He is well on his way with his transition from Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader and he's just as bad as Ben Airport.

Hopefully if we can get shot of him, and Mr Airport and get some Labour guys in, and with a labour government to help them, then we may actually start to see some real positives, not just publicity stunts.
