The energy companies obviously offer the same rate for gas and power to every household for a year and businesses for 6 months.

Does anyone know when this cap actually starts and does the cap include ‘standing charges’. ??????
 
So with the £400 winter payment to all house holds this means in reality it's capped at £2,100 or £175/Month 👍

Typical. They put the bills up to more than £1000 than this time last year and we are thanking them. Still means some people will have to choose between eating and heating this winter.
 
It is stunning that Truss is leaving the Energy providers to decide what they do with £170billion of unexpected profit from Putin’s war.
They might invest it, it might be in energy, it might be in renewables, it might be in line with 2050. Or it might be given away in dividends to shareholders the like of which are Investment Funds managed by the Reece Moggs of this world.
Why not avoid extra public borrowing at a time where interest rates are high and Govt debt interest payments are already soaring, by taking the windfall profits the energy companies won’t miss in their own words?
If we can borrow such vast sums why not State capital invest in provision of renewables and insulation, rather than hope the private sector does what is vital for our country and our people?
If ever the choice had been starker between protecting holders of massive current wealth and the general public, it is right now.
I can not wait for the next General election.

Funny how the war seems to have affected us yet no other European country has increased it’s energy prices as much as the UK. Stats dont lie.

Private companies are taking advantage of the situation and the Tories are protecting them as it suits their agenda. Truss once worked for Shell, you think she doesnt have friends in that place still? The biggest donation to her campaign came from somebody who had past ties to BP.

There will be people in higher positions who have financial interests in these energy companies connected to the Tories and its always about the same story with the Tories, THE RICH GET RICHER AND THE POOR GET POORER.

Meanwhile, as ‘us’ plebs celebrate, we are left wondering when, and how, we will pick up the bill of billions to pay for this, given BP, Shell etc aren’t going to be paying
from their excess profits.
