If Jones is fit he plays.
100% - my benched Jones is the goalkeeper Jamie Jones. I'm assuming Isaiah Jones won't be fit.

All of a sudden we have a few options. There's competition for places at CB and CM.

I think he’ll beef it up a bit as well as that front 4 looks a bit naive.
I toyed with Howson Barlasar and Hackney in the front three for my line up too - I think if Coburn doesn't start, MC will go with this - but if Coburn starts he'll want Greenwood in the team.
I much prefer the team you posted. I don't like Hackney being pushed forward. He's one of our best players, probably our best, he should be played in his strongest position where he can influence the game the most.
He just needs to make a decision on who his best 2 CMs are. I think you are right with Hackney and Howson.
At this stage (and assuming no injuries back) I reckon it will be

Front 4 could almost line up in any combination. I suppose it's possible that Hackney plays further forward and O'Brien/Barlaser come in.
Coburn would probably start for Azaz if he was fully fit.

Suddenly looks a lot stronger and with Silvera, McGree, I Jones, Lath to return.

So we have 8 players. Unless you mean 5 available which will change shortly as McGree and Silvera will return.
Just pick 3 from the 5 players available for the attacking 3 positions and pick 2 for the 4 available for the CM positions.
If you move Hackney forward you have 6 players available for the 3 forward positions and 3 available for the 2 CM positions which makes less sense.
Hackney isn't as good playing in that LAM position. He can't influence the game as much. We miss his energy and drive in the middle. Barlaser isn't good enough to justify making that change.

I can't see Barlaser not starting. Carrick seems to like him and he's improved a lot over the last couple of months since he's had a run of games.

I agree with everything there - but the question is what we think MC will do/how we think we're going to line up, not how we would line them up if we were the manager.

But I can also see the argument for Hackney further up if Coburn and Jones aren't fit.... Forss is the only player who can play RW naturally - which leaves Crooks/Greenwood as the ST...

We'd only have Gilbert to bring on further up the pitch - as I can't see him switching Hackney from CDM to LW in the middle of the game... so having him start there, gives us an option off the bench.
