How bad is this / car crime

Stealing uninsured and untaxed cars! Arent they doing everyone a favour? They would have a field day round where i live.

Car crime isn't as high as it used to be. There's less than half the amount of cars stolen per year than there was 20 years ago.
I would guess that the vast majority of people stealing cars are stealing them to joy ride for an hour then dump or burn out so they wouldn't be bothered about an air tag. They aren't stealing them to sell or keep.

More sophisticated criminals who are doing that will have ways around it I guess. They always find a way don't they.

I can't remember the last time I heard about anyone I know's car being broken into or stolen but it used to be fairly common when we were kids. I only really ever hear of people's garages getting broken into these days which has happened 3 times to my neighbours in the last 2 years.

Yes I didn’t get that bit either, so they only nick untaxed and uninsured cars and leave the rest.

Probably because they think that they might not get reported stolen, says that they are trying to find the owner of a vehicle that they recovered, if not taxed and insured they probably not going to come forward

I don't understand why cars still get stolen. Why don't people just buy an air tag or android equivalent and stick it in their car?
I did. Had my car stolen last year and they have the technology to find it and chuck it. My car (Evoque) was a keyless car theft. I now have a wheel lock and keep my keys in a Faraday box and pouch.

Oh and it was taxed and insured.

A lot of stuff gets stripped for parts too.
The idea that this is kids doing it for kicks is way off.
It’s an international problem and very very organised

Broken into, there's loads, particularly around The Riverside.

Former resident of this place, Bandy, had his broken into about a month ago.

There was a good article at the weekend on how manufacturers were warned that keyless would be relatively easy to bypass by those in the know.
They ignored it, of course, and now everyone pays via insurance premiums

There is a great mechanic near me who keeps my old car well tuned. My car is nearly 20 years old and while it runs ok I do not intend to buy a new car. Only a nutter would steal mine.
