How ambitious is Steve Gibson?(Episode 2).

Boro has failed to become an established top tier side throughout Gibson's tenure and that isn't going to change. Reconcile yourselves to being a top half Div 2 team that occasionally spends a season or two in Div 1 before inevitable relegation. It helps ease the pain.
We had 11 successive seasons in the top tier under Gibson's tenure. That was pretty established.

Different world now.

Yes, most clubs' runs' in the PL are getting shorter.

Leicester look like they're going to go after 9. They reached an incredible high, but it wasn't enough to make them an established PL club.

Brighton and Brentford are going really well just now, but I don't think Brentford will make it to 10 seasons. Brighton probably will, given they're guarenteed a 6th season. However, surviving that long isn't certain: Leicester finished 5th in 19/20 and 20/21, and Brighton can fall apart just as fast.

Gibson has been amasing. He has kept the club afloat year on year. Times have changed and his level of investment will not get us to the promised land. Not sure how the likes of Brentford or Brighton achieve it.

Luton or Coventry will do it too.
Maybe investment/giving the club money isn't the key?

The club is something he is stuck with for financial reasons, unless he wants to take a big financial hit. He will want consistent PL football again to increase the value of the club, so that he has the option to get out when the time is right.

He is past the point of wanting to mortgage us to the hilt to try and win a cup or achieve the (previously) unthinkable. He probably knows deep down that 2004-2006 was our peak and his ambition will not be to try and match those achievements.

He will make whatever transfer funds available he can that he feels comfortable with and that are within FFP limitations.

Our location certainly affects potential signings. Brighton and Brentford are nice cosy Southern based clubs, with all the bright lights just around the corner. The Hill street arcade does not cut the mustard with footballers wives.

I don’t agree with that, we have always been able to attract high quality footballers. London is 4 hours away if they really want to go to that 5hithole.

How many Brentford, Brighton or Bournemouth players would come this far North ? Very few.

Luton / Cov and Sunderland have proved you can make the playoffs on a relative 'shoestring'.

Apart from Burnley the parachute payment sides have bombed this year. We were far and away the biggest spenders of the 4 playoff sides (especially wages).
