House of the dragon - trailer released.

Such as shame that the last couple of episodes of the original GOT series completely drained my enthusiasm for the story.
I'll definitely give this a shot in the hope of redemption thought 👍🏻

Won't get my hopes up after the absolute horror show that was the final season of Game of Thrones, but presumably it's not the same d*ckhead showrunners this time.

Went from one of the most talked about TV shows in generations to basically evaporating from the public conscience because of how badly they rushed and messed up the ending.

I'm really looking forward to watching this when it's released. On the other hand Amazon's Lord of the Rings trailer doesn't fill me with confidence for that series, even though it's apparently the most expensive tv series ever made ($465 million budget).

I felt it was a really uninspiring trailer. The story its built on is sound and I am hoping it was just an early teaser failure rather than a reflection of what is coming. Certainly expecting a lot from it.

I hate it when directors (or whoever's responsible) see the $$ and ruin good shows/movies by not knowing when to stop.

I always felt with the biggest problem with the final series was the stories never being finished by Martin, probably because he has so many arcs running at once (I'm not sure the books will ever finish). The showrunners had to try and simplify it and perhaps it wasn't to everyones' tastes, and what would likely have happened over 2 or 3 books and potentially 3 more series happened within 3 episodes.

I think the showrunners have more freedom with this and i imagine it will be a much more simple storyline following the standard blueprint of family civil war but with dragons. I expect it wont be as exciting/ there wont be taken on as much at GOT was directly. It will likely end up as a series for the fans, rather than the populace.

Very true, I reckon if it wasn’t for the last 2 series sh*tshows I’d have replayed the whole series a couple time still. They absolutely wrecked it.

I reckon this will be good though

I like the look of the power of rings

It was blatantly obvious what happened. They got offered the Star Wars gig so didn't want to hang around. They rushed the ending and ruined the show's (and their) legacy. It went from a well-paced, political show about the interactions between characters, delayed gratification and with the dramatic set-pieces being the finishing touch to characters moving around by teleportation, dramatic set-pieces being the only thing happening and everything happening instantly. All of the intrigue and interest vanished for the sake of getting everything done as quickly as possible.

The biggest example is when they fight the walkers beyond the wall and they are on that lake that is freezing and they send Gendry on a 500 mile round trip overnight to get help and Dany et al turn up with the dragons by morning. It was nonsense. The defence of Winterfell when the White Walkers attacked was just stupid. They wasted all their troops when it didn't make sense. There was just no logic to it.

There was loads of really interesting theories about Bran and the 3 eyed raven. Did he cause the white walkers meddling in the past, did he cause the Mad King, was he the puppet master for everything that happened etc but instead they just used him as bait and then made him King.

The loose story was fine. It was just the way they did it. It was just so rushed. REally annoys me because it was on course to be up there with the best TV of all time and instead it was just thrown in the bin. All they had to do was use the story they had but consistently apply the logic and balance of previous seasons.

Yup the showrunners got greedy and believed their own hype. That's basically it. Resulting in a massive FU to the viewers.

Dany's character arc might have made sense if it was a slow descent into madness over several seasons. As it was, it was just completely implausible.

So many character arcs, carefully set up over years just completely ruined.

If the book ever gets finished be fascinating to see what changes.

He did a blog post recently basically saying the ending will be completely different to the TV show.

Not that I believe he'll finish it, unless he's been writing both at once, but he'll presumably leave the groundwork for another author to finish it.

We'll get Dreams of Spring at some point, but I think he'll be too old and unhealthy to finish them both.
