If your going to spend that sort of money there are a couple of Central London Radisson Blu hotels for the same or a bit less.

(Was actually looking at the site just then to book for work)

£292 for a family room at the Premier Inn at Brixton.

I live down south but whenever we stay over for a event and we have the two kids, we use this as Brixton is a great location and the Victoria line is brilliant.

Not a massive room but always clean and tidy, great food and drinks nearby.

In terms of the Apollo, theres a cheap option at the Premier Inn at Ealing which is 35 mins away and is £227 for a family room

That’s the going rate now, not just in London either.

Through the roof.

Look at premier inn hubs, cheap and ok, there's quite a few of them. We're paying £65 for a room this Sunday at Camden
Fri and sat just fine we paid £180 for two nights at King's Cross

Prices in London are extremely high at the moment. However, many hotel chains are keeping the headline prices high and offering steep discounts through credit cards - definitely take a look if you have any reward type credit cards - Amex especially.

Alternatively, if you give me more specifics (type of room(s) needed, I can try and help.

Prices also vary massively from one night to the next. I stayed in London last night and there were plenty of cheap (~£80) options, but when I looked at including either Saturday night or Monday night to stretch out the trip I couldn't get anything other than a doss house for < £250

Two weekends before Xmas is not going to be cheap.

Hugely. Last week I stayed at a cheap but perfectly reasonable hotel in Canary Wharf for £96 on Monday night, booked last minute. The same room was £250 on the Tuesday. Booking in advance usually helps a bit mind.

I would definitely want to be much more central, than a number of those suggested, if you want time to see some of London too. My golden rule is never stay anywhere we’re we have to board tube to get close to something central. I use the buses mostly - you see more.

There’s the Premier Inn (The Hub) at Goodge Street, between Regents Park and Oxford St (ask for a larger room as the small rooms are tiny). The Mercure at London Bridge is really handy, short walk to the Millennium foot bridge into St Paul’s.

Premier Inn County Hall or Westminster are great locations, but get booked up fast.
There are a number of Z Hotels centrally too. It depends what you want really. You could be at the Apollo on the District Line (or in a Taxi £20) inside 35 minutes from Westminster.

I suspect those options would all cost the OP more than the hotel he is citing as being too expensive.

For two rooms, two nights, £447 is cheap for hotels in London. But the time trailing in and out of the city would take the fun out of it, for me.

It’s difficult to do an enjoyable break to any major city on the cheap. Maybe an Airbnb Could be a solution?

I took, wife, both daughters, both grandkids to London three weeks ago and accommodation in Marylebone was £900 for us all in a big 3 bedroom flat. Might be smaller places that are more cost effective.

Flat in Fulham £320 https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/modern-luxury-flat.html?aid=304142&label=gen173nr-1FCAEoggI46AdIM1gEaFCIAQGYATG4AQfIAQ3YAQHoAQH4AQKIAgGoAgO4ArvVuKkGwAIB0gIkMzk1MjJkMjUtZDAzMC00MjJjLTg2ODItZTNlODQ3NTdlNWEy2AIF4AIB&sid=f774ec3300f43ad96a9c4cd930548dd8&dest_id=2280&dest_type=district&nflt=privacy_type=3&room1=A,A,7,10&group_adults=2&group_children=2&no_rooms=1&checkin=2023-12-08&checkout=2023-12-10&highlighted_blocks=1055172301_377701815_4_0_0&atlas_src=sr_iw_title&ucfs=1

Given the prices for ordinary hotels at the moment, there's a strong argument if funds allow for making a weekend of it and staying somewhere nicer. Prices bounce around a lot(sometimes every hour), but if the OP is happy with one three bedded room, this morning I can pick up several 4*s, right in the center for under £500 for the 2 nights, 5* for £600. If that's too expensive and don't mind travelling, I can get a modern, well-reviewed hotel in Stratford or Brentford for £350. Not sure how that compares to general public prices (that's from my B2B system)

Be VERY careful on that flat. The link provided shows it is new to booking.com and could easily be a scam(seen several where they don't actually exist - it's a common trick to list them just below market value at a non-refundable rate). I do book places like this, but only where they have been reviewed by previous guests.
