Horrible Flatmates

Got a bad one at the moment - not my choice!

I’m not particularly looking for advice , just wondered if anyone had any stories or funnies to share of their own past or present bad house sharers? To cheer me up a bit if nothing else! 😆

Ok, although it wasn't funny then or now.

Many years ago I was on tour and had to share a bedroom with a fellow cast member who was......how can I put this..... screamingly gay. Not in itself an issue but he would have a few drinks and start to spill the beans on what he'd been up to. Turned out he was hiding from the police after having "a loving relationship" with a 13 year old boy, and the tour had come along just at the right time for him to avoid a knock on the door.

I didn't have one night's decent sleep on that whole gig.

Oh god. Well, I’m sure I haven’t got that issue here, although mine does like to have multiple girls over for his kicks.
Sounds like a real pang for the conscience HV.

Just been watching the Savile documentary that came out this week. Had to pause it at some places it was so sickening.

Whilst working in Reading I was in a house with 3 other guys - they were for the most part all good but one had a habit of having a crap and leaving the residue that clung to the pot in place - not using the bog brush in other words to clean his mess up.

I only really spoke to one other lad as two were on shifts but we managed to seek out the culprit and threaten him with anything left in the pot would be deposited on his bedroom doorknob.

Job was a good un.

Haha sounds like the job literally went from a bad-un to a good-un

Also watched the Savile doc.
Was there anything more chilling than seeing Savile and Glitter in a TV studio full of young girls.

I have a distant family member who's currently house sharing with a couple of lads .. they each have their own room with a lock on the door. Anyway, said family member isn't the brightest and gave his spare room key to one of the lads he's sharing with incase he loses he own ...

Unfortunately, the lad he gave his spare key to is an alleged drug dealer and my distant family member has, after a household disagreement (whos cleaning the bathroom?) has inadvertantly, by accident, it "just slipped out, honest Guv" but mostly cos he's as thick as two short planks .. grassed him up to the Rozzers ....

Not sure how that makes him thick. Sounds like he was fed up with this other guys s*** and had enough to me.

Weird culture we have protecting scumbags. Not sure the police will do much but always better to tell the truth I find. Even at the risk of being called thick by your own family 😇

The frightening part is how long it went on for and how many people protected him.
Literally given the keys to the castle to do what he wants with a royal seal of approval.
Says a lot about our previous culture surrounding sexual abuse. Seems to be a bit better now though but I’m sure it’s far from perfect.

About 2001 time I let a guy sofa surf for a few weeks while he sorted out a new place. He left a PC running in the living room and after a few beverages, me and a mate had a look at his downloads on Kazaa. He was downloading tons of horrific sounding porn involving very young ages. Formatted his PC for him and told him to pack his stuff up. Tried to play it off as "its all just normal stuff, those titles are how you get the best porn", aye righto. He spent years telling shared acquaintances about how we ruined his life by making up these fake accusations as word got around about it. dont think he was actually a pedo, just a very weird hippy guy, but very bad stuff to be downloading and deserved what he got for doing this on my internet connection! These days you would be screwed.

Had a mate who's flatmates put notes under his door asking if he can wash up more often and if he can clean his room as a funny smell was starting to come out of his room. He's landed on his feet really as his wife is a clean freak and tidies up all the time! When he was at uni, I have a strong recollection of there being a slice of stale bread on the toilet floor. Became known as the bog bread.

same friend in a different house, after a night out we all went back to his - bog bread long gone by then. One of the girls that came back with us for some reason went outside and put ketchup on a neighbours car. Turns out they were a drug dealer. Few minutes later doorbell went, he opened it and caught a baseball bat to the shoulder. Shut the door, few minutes later living room window put through and a tear gas grenade or something comes through, so everyone had to run to the back yard. Rozzers came, car they had used had fake plates on. suffice to say, he moved out in the morning.

Same friend, rented a bungalow with 2 other friends I know. They had another room let out to various people over the years and they used easyroommate to find flatmates, just refreshing the ad whenever someone moved out. Strange thing happened, where this one lad had known the other 2 main lads for years and gone on nights out together etc, said he had found an ad that they had put up and were trying to replace him in the house, announced via text that he was moving out and they never spoke again. It was the same ad they had always used and was inactive, so a really strange situation - friendship literally disappeared and scorched earth from thereon in - bit weird if cross paths now, but always wonder what was going on in his head.

He was a master of manipulation.
Inviting senior members of West Yorkshire's finest to his flat for cosy get togethers, being just one example.

No. He's not very bright. The drug dealer is also the guy he gets his drugs from and who he owes a few hundred ££ to. Over a minor disagreement with his dealer .. who he lives in the same house with .. and who he's given his spare key to .. he's grassed him up in a fit of : "I'll show him" .... Not exactly an Einsteinian moment of brightness ..

Maybe I should have mentioned those extra details in my OP ..

I’m sure there’s more to the story as well. Hope he gets himself in a safer place and away from those who want to exploit a weakness for substances inside of him. Not a fan of dealers at all personally. Think there’s a big difference in those who set themselves up to sell, and those who buy. But there’s nuance to it

Yeah I know, I saw the docco. But where’s the accountability for those who knew? I don’t buy the idea that he was a one man band at all. Culturally, we protected him. And in 2012 that only really shifted as he was outed and the me too movement grew.
The truth is always there to be seen by those who want to see it. And the rest turn a blind eye , acting in self interest

I still don't understand why so many appeared to like him full stop.
He was at best a very odd character.

Like you say, he was a master manipulator and also a public figure. I think people generally fawn to the former (to avoid getting hurt themselves) and fall over themselves at the latter (for very different reasons).
Anyway! Enough air time to that man from me I feel. Enjoy the match today, all the best.
