Home form.

We have played most of the top teams away, apart from Sheffield United and Blackburn. The key to us getting near to the top two is home form. We have a great crowd. We need to utilise it. Our games always start so flat, passing about at the back, keeping the ball in safe situations. Allowing the away team to settle in. We need to get at ALL teams from the start. Don’t let them into the game. We need to be in front at half time. The home form is cr@p for an aspiring promotion team. The points difference says it all. Even Luton have more than us!

I don't know why they always start the match kicking towards the South Stand, it happens so much that it must be our choice as well as the other teams, with most other clubs there is a desire to use the most noisiest end for the 2nd half , if there is a need for crowd support at the business half of the game then attacking that end helps.
Which might be at odds for your narrative for getting at them from the start but surely we can do that attacking the North Stand in the 1st, then if we need something extra tonhelp us in the 2nd, we will have the crowd

It is a fairly new thing that the South is the loudest stand. The north is where all the old Holgate fans mainly went when we move to the Riverside hence it being our main stand historically. Whilst now it’s fairly quiet I still think we should kick towards the north in the second half although with the away fans being on the side I don’t think it really matters.

If that home form table is up to date then it seems we are due a “L” tomorrow by sequence…..

I do think we should do more to unsettle opponents in the first 15 minutes of games.

Its a naturally nervous place to come for opponents and their fans, because we are Far North, working class area, 24k plus crowds, but sometimes on the pitch it feels more like Surrey on a cold day and that feeds back to the crowd and vice versa.

Our home form is, roughly comparable with the teams around us. As is, by definition, our away form.

I am not sure why people expect us to have better home form than those around us?

I don’t blame Boro, I blame those pesky away teams for our bang average home form, they keep coming here and trying to take points from us. In reality, we have seen a lot of dross at the Riverside bar the Luton game. Even the Hull win was a struggle at times. My biggest gripe is we play with a slow tempo and lack ball carriers, Doak and Hackney aside. We need a ball carrier on the left as an outlet for me and we do over commit players forwards at times with a high line that leaves us open to a pacy breakaway and we know our back 4 lack pace.

We are 7th and we have similar home form to the teams in 6th-10th. The top 5 all have much stronger home form and that's where we are striving to be, It's an obvious area of improvement. Particularly when you in bear in mind that we have had a softer set of fixtures at home than away.

Home Matches

Swansea - 9th
Portsmouth - 21st
Preston - 14th
Stoke - 18th
Bristol City - 11th
Sheff Utd - 1st
Coventry - 16th
Luton - 15th
Blackburn - 5th
Hull - 24th

Only 3 top half teams played and none of the top 4.
Our home doesn't reflect this.

I notice no mention of burnley.

Our home form is comparable to those teams around us. it is not substantially worse. Those at the top with better home form, also have better away form. This is exactly what you would expect.

That we have played most of the top teams away will impact, however I have no idea who the other teams have played home or away. Without a mean on opponents position then the comparison falls down.

We haven't played Burnley at home....

Or do you mean their home form? They have 2.0PPG at home. We have 1.7PPG. They have the worst home form from the top 5.

Sheff Utd - 2.8
Leeds - 2.5
Burnley - 2.0
Sunderland - 2.2
Blackburn - 2.1
WBA - 1.5
BORO - 1.7
Watford - 2.6

Our away form is much closer to the top teams away from home. Slightly behind but not as far behind.

Away Form

Sheff Utd - 1.7
Leeds - 1.4
Burnley - 1.8
Sunderland - 1.5
Blackburn - 1.5
WBA - 1.8
BORO - 1.4
Watford - 0.8

There's definitely a bigger problem at home than away especially when you bear in mind the strength of fixtures.
This stretches back to the beginning of last season
