Herd immunity still the policy

Keep an eye on the South Korean cases of virus reactivation / 2nd infection /false negative tests. I'm very interested in the immunity studies. It appears that those in SK who have it a 2nd time show no symptoms. That could be good in one way but bad in another.

The reports yesterday say those who were thought to have been re infected were all, in fact, not reinfected but still immune.

Two ways of looking at this by the way....
‘There is no evidence of immunity’
‘There is no evidence of people becoming re infected’

Half full or half empty......

I thought those who had tested positive a second time all had traces of a dead virus?

I had seen reports on people testing positive for months, Paulo Dybala had recently announced he had been positive for the last 30 days. While its unlikely to suggest that these people are catching it twice, wasnt the official advice to self isolate for a week if you had symptoms. Wonder how many people have still been positive after a week and gone back to work etc without realising they were spreading it.

Is a second wave of this virus an absolute certainty?
Yes it is unfortunately.

As you may have read, I do a big shop on Friday and use the local co-op for bread, milk and bits during the week. It'll amount to 3 trips maximum per week.

Twice I have been to the local co-op and they've had nobody controlling entry to the store. Being a social distancing Nazi I actually waited when I reached the front of the queue and watched for someone to leave the store before I went in. Fortunately the people behind me realised that they needed to take some responsibility too, unlike those who went in ahead of me.

Then today, Morrison's was an absolute farce with couples, and in one case a family of 3, just wandering around and not respecting any social distancing efforts. I was even behind one couple who were ambling along while the husband who was pushing the trolley was coughing into his hand without a care in the world.

I can safely say that we will have a second wave of this virus because it won't take long for all the good work to be undone as people relax their personal hygiene standards, forget about social distancing and flock to places once they open back up. People are still far too self-involved and ignorant of their surroundings despite the horrendous death tolls we are seeing.

I am sure that this post will elicit accusations of being holier than thou, of having a higher moral compass etc etc, but I will be proven right in the long run and we will see a return to lockdown when the cases and deaths start going back up.

If there was no immunity, then wouldn't we have hundreds of thousands of people who were continuously ill? People do recover from this disease, which suggests their immune system rids the virus from their system. I would guess quite a number of health care workers are already living proof that there is some immunity. How long it lasts is the big question. But isn't that just as true of a most types of vaccine. I thought the idea for at least one type of vaccine was to simulate the virus with a benign copy that would stimulate the bodies immune system to create antibodies.

People get the common cold, recover from the illness & then can get infected & have a cold again, as there are over a 100 strains of the virus that cause a cold.
Scientists in China say they've identified two strains of Covid-19 & people have been indentified with both, & on the odd occasion people have got sick a second time. In Singapore they say they've identified a 3rd strain.

So you may have had and developed an immunity to "A", but that may not help you when you're exposed to "B" or "C".

I just go to a smaller local Sainsbury's which handles people well. Only three in the store at a time and a one way system. They have everything in; it costs more but worth it for a social distancing Nazi like me.
