Robson was offered the England job. And said no. And regretted it pretty much immediately.
Not really relevant to this thread but your post brought it to mind.

I don’t think the club is under any pressure to sell. It wasn’t expecting to sell rogers.

We are well within ffp, in fact have room to invest.

We have little debt now that most has been converted to equity.

People have got their head into a space of needing to sell every year to survive, that isn’t the case. We have been selling the last couple of years for a variety of reasons.

- Spence - had burnt his bridges at the club, the club wanted him gone because he’s a toxic personality

- Tav - we had come to an agreement that we would let him move to a prem club as a fair compromise on his contract and to help his career

- Akpom - he had one year left, we could have gambled and kept him but chose the less risky option of cashing in and investing

- Rogers - we didn’t expect or want to sell but his head was turned.

This has all been done with the backdrop of reducing wages to something sustainable and finding ffp wiggle room. We will have a big ffp space this summer for further investment we don’t need to sell. But if Hackney has his head turned and we get 25m

Other than Akpom are OUR assets (minus loans) weaker than last year or the year before? I’m not sure they are

No I don't want to sell him, he's from my home town after all. I really hope he sticks around and becomes the midfield general for years to come playing in a Boro shirt. However money talks, we are running a tight ship and need to get the balance right to keep us moving in the right direction.

No I agree our squad is generally stronger and Akpom was out of contract and, in my opinion, came good against the odds.

I was more making a point about posters seemingly being too happy to see our talent getting sold, I suppose I want them to be fans rather than bean counters or FFP experts.

FFP is a key part of the game, we have to work the system to our advantage buy low sell high to build up ffp allowance.

Not only is our squad probably a touch better than a couple of years ago, but, we were on the edge of ffp then, we have a lot of ffp allowance left for the summer and can and will invest

I can imagine Gibson will have a big push on us being in the Premier League for our 150th anniversary.
 
Hackney is going to be a top Premiership player, but would he automatically walk into a Prem starting eleven at the moment? More likely he would be sent out on loan. Much better for the lad to spend another year or so playing for the Boro under Carrick's guidance.
 
He's been decidedly poor since he was injured. At the moment, at least, Boro are better with him on the sidelines.

Maybe he was rushed back from injury, but he didn't look at all like the player from last season.

If we can address the striker issue in the summer and perhaps sign O’Brien, who I thought was excellent yesterday, I think we’ll be in a good position.
 
We probably have to sell a bit more than we buy every season now, but we have already made our Summer sale in Rogers and the Crooks money is available to spend in the Summer without selling anyone.

As said if a top half Premier League club bids £25m plus add ons - the players head could be turned and we can't stop others making big/massive bids for him. Thats a problem for the vast majority of Championship teams.

I can’t help thinking that is pretty much the plan to be fair. As long as the price is right, obviously.
 
Not many clubs st our level who don’t sell players - IF the price is right.

To be honest, it’s better than no one being interested in any of our players.

We don’t have to sell more than we buy every year. It doesn’t work like that, we just have to be within ffp within any given 3 year window. I suspect this summer will be a negative transfer
