Has shown some great tactical awareness, yes the Akpom thing is the obvious one, unchaining Jones from his defensive duties is another. Recognising the limitations of McNair is a third.But so far, Carrick has exceeded my expectations. He's let the shackles off a few players, put players in their proper positions (Jones RW, Lenihan/Fry CB etc) and what he's done to Akpom is incredible. He's like a rolls royce in that #10 slot!
On Saturday he recognised that they were getting behind Giles as he pushed on. Carrick stopped Giles pushing on until our midfield were advanced into their half with the ball under no pressure, then Giles pushed up. This made us much more resilient to their attacks. Carrick was spotting the danger and thinking on his feet.
A long way to go, but it's a double thumbs up for me so far, I don't think he could have done any more than he has with what he's got to work with
