Have January signings derailed our season?

I don't think so, no.

They all came in the last few days of January, we lost to Rotherham, Blackburn and Birmingham before we signed any of them.

Since we signed them, there's only really the Derby and Bristol City losses that stand out as poor.
As disappointing as they were, losing to Brentford, Swansea and Bournemouth isn't exactly a huge shock.
The Swansea game was daylight robbery too.

2021 has just been rubbish for us.

I’ve been thinking this.

Bolasie has been a waste of a signing and it must be hard for Johnson to take being taken out the team, he was one of our best players the first half of the season. He must be suffering from long COVID or something for NML to be starting ahead of him.

I think we brought one too many attacking players in when we should’ve signed a centre back as cover.

It will be intersting to see how many are here next season - I'll guess at none, maybe with the exception of Mendez-Laing.

Its been a patched up, low cost squad and in truth, we look like a team of players who don't look familiar with how each other play.

I think next season will be a much more settled 11.

I really don’t think Johnson and Watmore would have scored/created any less than Lang, Bolasie, Kebano.
that said, didn’t Johnson abd Watmore have covid? Maybe they just took a while to recover and so weren’t always 100 % available?
I’d have played them both a lot more, given the option.

It would be good to get rid of the loan signings now, so that Warnock can try young players in the team. Use the last few games to work out who might grow into the team.

It's a depressing fact that not one of the 15 who played today is home grown.

The decline had already started from before the signings.

From Christmas to January 31st, we were 20th in the form table.

Since January 31st, we were 8th in the form table.

Todays defeat has knocked us down to 13th since the transfer window, but as above we were already in a slump before the signings.

I’ll admit I was expecting a lot from kebano as he was hyped up to be the creative goal scoring spark we’ve missed but he just hasn’t had that kind of impact.

I think niggly injuries have more derailed our season. Tav and Fry in particular have been in and out. Bolasie and Fletcher too. Injury to Dijksteel. Akpom and Britt out of sorts.

Also remember NML and Bolasie hadn't played for a year. They were never going to hit the ground running.

The very issue with signing out of contract players is that they ain't fit and thus more likely to pitch up injuries.

I do think Watmore and Johnson were very quickly bombed out despite being very much part of getting us where we were. I guess a big influx of new signings could alter the dressing room.

It's hard to say. I imagine Watmore and Johnson would have had as many goals and assists as any of the new lads (arguably more). Then again without them the bench would be very thin.

The new signings haven't made us inconsistent, we were verry inconsistent before they came and arguably we have become more consistent wit hthe new signings. I would agree that injuries have had a bigger impact.

Kebano looks a class above to me - shame we haven't got anyone else as good for him to play off.

Bolasie looks good in spells but it's clear he's had limited game time for the past couple of years and I don't think he's been helped by changing the CF with such regularity. Difficult to put telling balls in if you can't second guess the movement in the box - that comes with time.

NML is a back up option for me - still looks very rusty and I'm not convinced he has the intelligence to play off others around him. Seems to be a "head down and run" type of player.

Never convinced that mid-season signings are worth the hassle. It works out in the odd season but usually disrupts the season at a critical time. For all the creative players we've brought in, I rate Tav above all of them. Their fitness has made them less effective than they might have been but none offer the defensive role every NW player is expected to do.

probably not, I think we were always going to fall a little short in quality.

i think if anything the injuries we have had since the turn of the year are what have derailed us.

Dijksteel was carrying an injury for most of this time, and has been out the last month
Fry has had 3 injuries in 3 months
Tav has missed 10 games since January in and out with injuries
Browne injured after just one league game in january
Fletcher had 3 injuries and not got 100% fit
Watmore struggled with fitness after covid

Some key players there, we might have done better if we had kept them fit and only signed Kebano.

I thought that, but actually on watching him, he's very good at retaining possession and knowing the right time to go for the line and cross, and when to turn back and pass. His passing success rate is really highabnd his possession loss rate is low for a winger. I'd offer him another 12 months on the previso he uses the summer break to do a 6 days a week fitness regime and get up to 100%

Watmore got hit badly by covid, took his fitness away. Johnson, I agree would have had more impact than Bolasie.

Probably doesn't bode well then that some of the above will be the nucleus of our squad next season. They are not just one of injuries either. Tav, Fry, Dijksteel, Browne, and Fletcher(if he stays) have all missed more than one spell. Bit worrying.

Agree 100%
All have had a massive negative effect on us. Fry the biggest loss, Dijksteel a huge impact before Fisher. Tavernier is irreplaceable. Browne is an absolute gem of a player, Fletcher has been our best striker on the books for a long time. We’ll see how much of a miss these guys were at the end of the season, judging by how points we end up away from promotion/playoffs.

We need to be ruthless and ask the question
Which players would get in Norwich or Watford team ?
They are the teams who look like going up , and will probably come straight down without quality aditions.
Tav
Fry
Dijksteel
Morsy ?
Watmore ?
Big job on this coming season with recruitment .
