Has anybody watched - The Plot Against America

But this isn’t about a fictionalised Account of WW2 as the real war is hardly mentioned or only in passing. No it’s about how fascism and right wing ideology can pollute a nation and how that seed can grow and how history can often be decided on the smallest of margins.

Btw the same was true here as large members of chamberlains war cabinet were in favour of sue ing for peace with hitler to broker some firm of A deal, a fact largely downplayed now or even forgotten all together in some cases. As don’t forget Hess Germany’s second in command flew all the way to the uk to meet with high ranking British officials ... why did he do this who was he due to meet and how far advanced were these plans.

Churchill was one of the few that was opposed to the idea of an form of appeasement or capitulation and could see how dangerous this regime truly was.

I'm not sure there were "large" numbers in Chamberlain's cabinet who wanted to sue for peace, but certainly some did. The majority - reflected in the country did not want to sue for peace, nor appease Hitler.

Hess' mission is generally regarded as something he did unilaterally. The only influential person he knew was the Duke of Hamilton who it is clear didn't know Hess was coming.

History is written by the victors. It's this alone that spawns so many conspiracy theories which are fuelled by so many documents still being kept secret.

Watched it a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The similarity to America today was quite alarming.

The scene where they had to drive through a KKK town with the burning cars wasn't easy to watch. Can't comprehend the feeling of having to live through those times, and for those still suffering the same treatment today.

Absolutely brilliant series - one of the world's greatest authors adapted by arguably it's greatest ever TV producer. Another high benchmark for me.

Lindbergh in real life was a racist, but always denied he was fascist or supporter of the Nazis. He did receive a flying medal from Goring in 1938 and said the USA should not enter WW2 against Germany.

Pretty sure he was a Nazi sympathiser, admirer of Hitler and a shocking anti-semite.

it scary when you think that nazi Germany had all this knowledge and expertise on their door step and how if they had discovered the bomb how different history could have been.

A large number of the scientists who worked on the Manhatten project were Jews from Hungary who fled the Nazis. And of course there was Einstein too. Had the regime not been anti Semitic there is every chance they would have developed the bomb first.

Britain's support for the formation of the state of Israel also has its roots in Jewish scientists assisting the war effort in return for this support. Though I'm a little fuzzy on this one and it may be the first world war rather than the second.

I'll give this a go as well.

Funnily enough just finished watching SS-GB ................. Really enjoyed how it provoked you into thinking what if.
I know the author only did one book but it was left wide open for a 2nd series.

Saturn V is basically a larger v2 as Von Braun and his team took their rocket knowledge and moved it to the US. There is a really good book on this very subject of how war their records were largely wiped for senior nazi scientists once they moved them to the US.

As look at who built Von brauns vengeance rockets in the first place.

Considering that J Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, was of Germanic descent but born in the US, then Germany were closer than you think.

The US had 500k people working on the Manhattan project, spending over 1% of the GDP in an environment away from the war.

Meanwhile the Germans had far fewer people, a small fraction of the budget and research being disrupted by the fighting.

The fact that the US - with all that resource -didn't manage to produce a bomb until after the end of war in Europe suggests Germany was a very long way away from producing anything.

German scientists who worked on Uranverein said they'd only managed theoretical lab models by 1945.
