My ancestors come from Hanover and I hope to go over for a H96 game in early December(I actually help run their NA fan club) and do a Boro game on the same trip as well.:D

Anyway, before I go, just curious as to any who have been to Hanover? Best restaurants or pubs to go to? Tourist attractions? Anything else I need to do and/or know about?

Thanks!

Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

The Mrs was stationed there back in the 80's when she was in the army.
We went just before Covid typical German city good transport links.
There is not a lot too see TBH , The central park is good for a walk and it has a zoo but we didn't visit.
The town hall was interesting it had some historic maps showing Hanover pre and post WW2.
Hanover was pretty much destroyed during WW2 so its pretty modern and as mentioned quite boring.
The Altstadt area was where the best bars and restaurants are.

Worked there for a while, seem to remember the Reeperbahn, apart from being dodgy for obvious reasons, had a few decent restaurants and bars too. Not the most thrilling place, but ok.

Not sure boro will be playing there in December btw.

Reeperbahn is in Hamburg though, not Hanover.

There will definitely be a red light area in Hanover but the Hamburg one is actually named after a road that runs through the city. Reeperbahn actually means rope street and it's where the rope making industry was located years ago.

May be apocryphal but I was told the road was long and straight to allow them to manufacture long ropes back in the day 😳

I was over in Germany last month and I don't think there was a single day when I didn't mention the War. Usually with my sentence tailing off as I realised what I was saying. It seems to be such an ingrained point of reference.
