Hamilton

He played safe but might have been told to.

Difficult to gauge when playing in that team tonight. Certainly not writing him off but I hope there’s much more to come.

He looks more than a year away from any involvement other than a cameo role. Having swallowed the line about his speed and trickery I clearly had a too high level of expectation. That has now been adjusted to a more realistic level.

Looked like a typical city player who wants to pass the opposition to death but instead of bernado silva and de bruyne we had gilbert and barlaser fannying about. Surely hes got to show a bit more against a second string stoke team.

Tidy but fairly uneventful game. I do wonder why he's been one of the first subs he doesn't look like a game changer yet.

Totally agree.
Thought his performance was the biggest disappointment of the night actually, I was expecting him to be trying hard to impress but he played a shytehouse game

Safe and boring and when he got his chance he bottled it….
Jeez, not looking close to pushing for a start
Hes a kid and was it not his first start, lets not pull him apart, just because he comes from city doesnt mean hes ready for the championship, you ha e to be patient and remember he hasnt played as much league football as other loans or young players have who we signed i.e., Rogers, Archer, Ramsey

I'm probably on the slightly disappointed side too. He looked technically good but I didn't see any flair or dynamism. Also, (please take into account I sit at the back of the North West Stand, about 50m from the pitch) he didn't look particularly fit or athletic. He might well be in the best shape of his life, just he appeared to be labouring.

Obviously, very early days.

I had a bit of a different take

His ball retention looked brilliant

If it wasn’t on he kept the ball

Feels to me like he’s a flair player that’s had the flair coached out of him but I think he’s got huge potential
I agree, he had his moments. In the second half, before their second, I thought him, Gilbert, Josh and (dare I say) Engel had some really neat link up play and created a few good openings. Also, like Gilbert, there were moments when he just went for it as if he was pi$$ed off with the tippy-tippy stuff. I like that from a young player. Shows a bit of "chutzpah" (y)

He was safe at times but I wouldn’t say he was poor. Picked up some nice positions too in the first half. Would like to see him have a go at his full back now and again but you can see the lads got ability and a good football brain. Plenty to work with there for me.
I tend to agree with this,
I also wonder whether our style of play contributed to his ‘safe’ approach. Clearly our players are coached to keep possession and go backwards if not a clear opportunity.

Definitely shouldn’t be playing on the left when he has no left foot and so always has to come inside. Makes him too predictable and ineffective.

Kept the ball reasonably well but didn’t show any attacking intent apart from the chance he had when Gilbert played him in.
Didn’t take on the full back once or show any killer pace. Still early days, but hopefully he has a lot more in his locker.

Looking forward to this getting quoted back at me in 6 months when he's gone to Villa for £10m, but...

I've seen nothing from him yet that we weren't getting from Silvera.

He was substantially more disciplined defensively first half than silvera ever was ..

I'd mentioned that after viewing his YouTube clips he seemed to be a player trying to model himself on Grealish.

If this is the case then he's going to need good movement around him. It may take a while for players to be on his wavelength.

The confidence to beat a man will come the more he plays.
