They were both 1 season into their career. Regardless, Rav has also hinted that he wants to stay. He's loving it here.So you are talking about an 18 year old Rav? Totally different point in his career. I'm sure he'll know he wasn't going to a PL team at 18 and playing games so yes I would say Rav was realistic at that point in his career.
20 year old Rav with 50+ Championship appearances will be a different story.
No they weren't. Hackney was 2 seasons into his career. He played League One football for Scunthorpe 21/22 and Championship football for Boro 22/23. He's now 3 seasons into his career. They were both 1 season into their career. Regardless, Rav has also hinted that he wants to stay. He's loving it here.
I don't think all 3 will be sold. Hackney will be though.I'm not sure what the obsession is from fans that we will sell all our best players as soon as an offer comes in. Yes prem money can talk, but the likelihood that Rav, Hackney and Lath will all be sold is low. The likelihood that we are touting them around to try and drum up a sale is also low. Stop doom-mongering and enjoy the ride man
absolutely this.Pretty sure Scott spoke about Hackney when he was the radio not too long ago and said something along the lines of that he's happy to stay but of course all players have a price.
And things might have changed since then of course.
At the end of the day rumours are very easy to start and there's too many sad little men happy to make them up to try and appear "ITK". A lot of players will be wanted by bigger clubs. Easy to say I've heard xxxx is definitely going, because there's a fair chance there'll be interest anyway.
It's funny how all these ITK people missed quite a few of our summer signings, had no clue that Jones was out of the team last year due to personal problems and were confidently claiming inside knowledge that Clarke would never play football again.
Unless they come from a reliable source, such as a proper journalist, chances are most rumours are just made up bollox being spread around social media.
agreed, and with each year we sell a player, you would expect the pressure to sell lowers, and therefore the sale price goes up. It won't be linear, but over a period of time and a number of sales it should and is increasing. Rogers is potentially our biggest sale ever. I would expect one or maybe all three of Rav, Lath, Hackney will break our transfer record over the next 3 years. The way, we held out for a large sum for Spence, stood our ground on Tavernia and accepted Villa's third offer instead of their first for Rogers - points to a significant sea change, a steely more determined approach, not to give away our assets. In that light, other clubs might get the message, and we might stand a better chance of keeping our better players who want to stay. In a scenario like Rogers, who wanted to take his opportunity with Villa, we hold out for our financial benefit.
what I would say, is that based on him only playing about 10 games fully fit this season, it wouldn't be a huge dent based on last year.....but at the same time a fully fit Hackney would be a massive boost for the team. Same with McGree really, they've both contributed very little to a team that finishes just outside the play offs, so losing either or both isn't setting us back to a bottom half side. I guess it is possible that the goal vs Chelsea might have made a team up their bid to a level that was acceptable, but we've held it off until the summer. If he does go, it's gonna be a club record fee, and we will have our transfer budget sorted. He would fund 4 ready made first team players.I did hear a rumour that a deal was being done with Brighton...seems like the type of club that would be looking for a Hackney type.
Hackney has started more games for us this season than Rogers did. And he still got his move. Hackney has also played well in a few games for England U21s which will also attract interest. And of course his performances last season aren't just erased. There's been teams monitoring him for well over a year now.what I would say, is that based on him only playing about 10 games fully fit this season, it wouldn't be a huge dent based on last year.....but at the same time a fully fit Hackney would be a massive boost for the team. Hackney and Rogers are very different conversations. We signed Rogers for, what, about £1m (apologies if this is wrong), but had the opportunity to make a huge profit on him in 6 months. We presumably took the view that his value may have been as high as it would ever be at that point so decided to get the best deal we could. As well as he is doing for Villa, don't forget that he only became a regular starter for us in the month before he left. Presumably only Villa were in for him too. Hackney was a key player last season for a team that really should have got promoted, but has been relatively poor in comparison this season, where he has only made 21 appearances.Hackney has started more games for us this season than Rogers did. See the phrase "fully fit". He had a couple of injuries this year, and was never really on it for more than a handful of games, as he hadn't got his fitness or sharpness up to where it was last year.Hackney has started more games for us this season than Rogers did.
of course there is a trigger amount where the club will agree a sale, I think it will need to be a club record, which currently stands around 18m IIRC from Traore, I think it will need to be fairly significantly over that with add ons, and with him coming through our academy would be a 20% sell on, we've put a decade of effort and support into that kid.The simple fact is that if a Prem team makes an offer of £20m + for Hackney this summer then he will go. It would be a no brainer move for him from a career perspective, and the club from a financial perspective.
Hackney is quality and I have no doubt he will have a great career at the top level, but is him staying the difference between us getting promoted next year or not? I don't think it will be.
We'd have £20m to replace him with a top end Champ CM midfielder, plus strengthen other areas like RB/CDM/LW/ST. And if last summer is anything to go by our recruitment team are now savvy enough to get us a competent replacement as well as strengthening our weaker areas.
Yes Hackney was outstanding for the England U21 and did not look out of place alongside Palmer, Elliott and Lewis. He plays better alongside better players. He can play deep or attacking and he is English which again adds to his attraction for PL squads. With addons it must be a £25M+ deal.Hackney has started more games for us this season than Rogers did. And he still got his move.
