Hackney red card why no thread

We had a few players back covering. Their player would have had the ball out on the right wing facing away from our goal. There would have been no immediate danger.

What I'll ask is could you imagine Howson doing the same thing in that situation?

Hackney showed his inexperience but will hopefully learn from it.
Howson? The bloke who put their player through on goal? Yes I can to be frank. They are making split second decisions in the middle of the park whilst being heavily pressured whilst trying to pass the ball out of defence. It is a tactic which invites mistakes, and we are making far too many of them for it to be viable.
On top of that we are doing it on the hoof. I see no pattern.

It's not hackney that needs to learn it's his boss.

The ref and officials were especially poor on Saturday.. the standard of referring is atrocious in the championship.

That being said.. it is unfortunately part of the game and we need to learn how to play with that regardless.

I thought we did. We went for it. It didn’t work out.. but we went for it.

You can’t ask for more than that imo.

Decisions go against you and sometimes things don’t work out. Every game is different and ever game will bring it’s own challenges.

We can’t just go crazy for promotion with every win and then go Carrick out after every loss. It’s embarrassing. I don’t think it represents the majority of fans.. but social media can sway folks into thinking the worst.

We pick up far too many soft yellow cards. Look at the Bristol City game. We had three yellows in the first 13 minutes (Hackney, RVDB and Azaz). It wasn't a dirty game, and as others have said we are not a dirty team. We are just rubbish at the "dark arts" part of the game, which is strange given that Carrick played under Ferguson for so long. Maybe we are too honest, or at least trying to be, but in the Championship you need to play the game.

It's a strange situation when you think about it. It's a team game, both teams got 3 yellow cards yet we play with 10 men for 70 minutes. No doubt we've benefited the other way around plenty of times. I quite like the "sin bin" idea, but then it's another thing for the officials to mange (probably badly).

Just seen the incidents for the first time. First yellow is harsh but I can understand why he gave it. Hackney was our deepest midfield in that channel and the lad was effectively on our back four. If that foul happened 60 yards up the pitch it's not a card but given the positioning it does look pretty cynical.

Difficult to argue with the second. He wins the ball but it's a really poor tackle - doesn't look in control and goes in with his studs. I've seen similar reds given over the last couple of years.

I'm not sure i fully agree with the 2nd. Their player is to the side. His studs were never going into an opposition player, their player goes over his leg. Not saying it was great, but on another day i'm not sure it would even have been given as a foul.

I think the ref could have managed it better and given Hackney a warning but Coventry saw the opportunity and reacted badly.

It was the only example in the match of firm refereeing and it ruined the game for us after 20 minutes.

Yeah don't disagree, I expected a warning rather than a 2nd yellow but we brought it on ourselves with some slack play in that opening 20 mins. Ref was the usual lucky dip, ignoring clear fouls and yellows, then giving soft decisions on other occasions.
