Hackney red card why no thread

First one he pulled the player back, always going to be a yellow. The second one, he won the ball, their lad came in from the side and went over Hackney's leg. In isolation it might have been a yellow, but only if, as I think, the ref didn't see him win the ball. The ref was terrible in my opinion. He was too quick with some decisions, took an age to decide others and completely bottled some.

I think he did win the ball on the second one but then followed through with his studs up. My understanding is winning the ball is irrelevant in the rules these days if the tackle is reckless or with excessive force.

Where are these match highlights as I need to see the tackles back, I'm sure they are usually out by now!

He let his teammates down today. Hopefully he'll learn from it.

Will be interesting to see how Howson and Morris perform together at QPR.
I don't think he did at all. He miscontrolled. Realised we were in the **** and then compounded the error in trying to rectify his mistake.
The standard of players we have they are going to miscontrol balls and misplace passes. It's daft trying to play out like that under heavy pressure. Especially since there seems to be little structure to our play and it all seems to be on the hoof.
Hackney is probably our best player. He plays for the England under 21 team amongst all the premier league players. When you've got your best player making errors, and you are consistently dropping points due to errors, I think you need to look some where else.

The highlights are on sky now. Only has the 2nd yellow. As you correctly point out hackney got the ball but followed through with his studs on the player. In this case contact with the ball is irrelevant.

I still don't understand why he forced a retake of that corner.
I couldn’t work that one out either, and there’s no way they’ll be enough in the highlights for that to be shown. But it’s usually because he’s already decided to stop play because of some pushing in the box, or because it wasn’t taken from the quadrant. There didn’t seem to be any evidence of the former, and I’d expect the linesman to flag for the latter, so I’m baffled. But that doesn’t mean the decision was wrong of course.

They’ve just shown them both on sky sports news. I thought he pulled him back for the first but it was a slightly late tackle. Never a yellow. The second was a poor tackle and have seen them given but it was harsh, especially to send a player off. Their player rolled around like he’d been shot and the referee bought it.

If a player gets sent off for those two then there should be no tackling in football.

And has been for at least 30 years. I know a lot of people on here, myself included, are of an age where we can remember when that was a good tackle. But I assume we’ve all been watching football this century as well, so I don’t know why any of us still think it is.

What can he do once he’s won the ball? He barely grazes the lad too. It’s very harsh, especially considering what came after.

The lino was looking right at it and didn’t even flag. He could’ve easily had a word.

Hackney was a complete idiot today. Gives the ball away and then dives in without a thought for two yellows in 10 minutes. Against Bristol City he gets a yellow after 3 minutes. In that match the referee was a card happy fool but it meant Hackney spent the rest of the match trying to avoid doing his job to avoid a second. It made him a liability then and another today. His performances this season with only a couple of exceptions have been miles below his best. Our heavy defeat today wasn't bad luck. It was a combination of pathetic indiscipline from Hackney and abject defending. Conway and Morris must be wondering what they have joined whilst Carrick says he's happy with a lot of what he's seeing.

Watched a stream today, seen them both five times minimum..
The first is a deliberate trip , off a terrible first touch.
The 2nd is also a terrible touch . It's not even a ' tackle ' as their player made no attempt to kick the ball.
To me HH tries to toe it away, expecting a tackle / we're in the sh#t if we lose it

Not a 2nd yellow, but all his own making

Hes always wrong side so has to dive in or drag back poor positioning. He needs to be better at the basics.

Cant tell the idiots on here tho cause he scored 1 wonder goal this season and plays for England u21s. He's the boy

I’m not putting this on Hackney, even down to 10 men that was embarrassing, Jesus, no in game management, we were run ragged, serious questions to be asked, not that the journos ever do that…😔

Hackney will be playing for a better team than us in the next few years.
