Hackney 2nd goal 🤷‍♂️

His pass to Diallo first half - got out of jail - and the communication with Fry for the penna were about the only noticeably bad things he did imo. Distribution wasnt the best today ....but the players were so lethargic this wasn't all on him.

Along with most of the team, a poor 5/10 from me.
Fair enough. Regarding the penalty though, he cant commit while its a one on one. Fry was beaten and Steffen has to hold his position, until Stewart throws himself down. Saved the pen but was unlucky.

Tell me how Steffan was poor ?
(1) Terrible pass that a keeper just cannot do…makes the defence unconsciously nervous about him
(2) Steffen was appalling for the penalty, wasn’t aware enough to see the terrible touch from (the bang average chancer) Stewart and had he been more focused and smothered the ball then fry would not have been sent off
Steffen is a liability

Im ignoring your trash posts.
The defense are anything but nervous about him at all.

from the very beginning he gave the ball directly to Diallo— that’s where confidence is gained and lost. There was other situations where he wasn’t on the same page as his defenders. I’m not laying the blame on him for the defeat but as a defensive unit we lacked authority today but then again no Boro player can say they played well today.

He inadvertently gave the ball away once and thats since the Burnley farce!!!
Think I'll trust Carricks opinion.

Ref and linesman were terrible to be fair…..for the penalty and the ref for the chuba penalty
It was never a pen on Akpom to be fair. Overall the linesman did a good job of making decisions based on what I saw. I’m sure he would have communicated on the penalty decision, which of course looked like a poor decision but that was down to the ref not the linesman.

How is that being fair? Anywhere else on the pitch that is a clear foul. of course it was a penalty to us.

You can’t have a goalkeeper who is so inconsistent. The defensive play is based around continuity and control so once you lose it it’s hard to get it back. You have to start off on the right foot and make sure you don’t make mistakes or errors that can lead to problems— that’s what happened today.

But I dont see him as 'inconsistent'.
Our defensive problem is we dilly dally to much and invite the othe team on. To be fair, its worked for a few months but its scary to watch. Again, he made one mistake.

From the sunlan board;

Steffen thread (!) ;

Giving Camp and Steele a run for his money here on keepers we’ve seen
On 80k a week at City too.

The clearance,
the spill to Stewart,
not off his line for the pen.
Garbage

Enough said from the opposition ?

Dont care about the opposition.

Are you going to apologise?

He made 2 crucial poor decisions during the game.
In the big moments that mattered Steffen showed he is lacking

I'm being a bit harsh on him for the penna, but I thought he was one of these sweeper keeper types and "possibly" could have been looking to get at the ball when Stewart booted it forward, (cleverly) looked for the foul.....and threw himself to the ground. He did seem to be rooted to his line when Stewart was only ever going to do one thing - extremely unlikely he would out muscle Fry and be able to compose himself and get a decent shot away. I dunno, it's irrelevant now 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
As for the penna save, certainly looked like the defenders didn't bust a gut to follow in and the spin off the save was very fortuitous for Stewart. Nowt Steffen could have done. Meh.

And so it begins...

Only a few weeks ago people were waxing lyrical about the lad. He's a young professional player who will have bad games. This board is ridiculous with players at times. Bipolar even.

It’s OK to say he had a poor game.

He was well off the pace today.. been brilliant for a while now though. He’s young.. hopefully learn from today and we go again. Sure he’ll be back to his great standard next week.

I know even when I played Sunday league if we had a keeper who kicked the ball straight to an opponent which possibly can lead to goal I’d be really worried that keeper.

Ok things have improved with Steffan but it’s like that tooth that sometimes aches— you know sooner or later you have to start to worry about it. Today I saw the same old problems.

The thing with Steffan is that he’s not only lost his place with Man City he’s also lost his place with the US national team. I’m sure that plays on his mind almost daily— one minute he wakes up wearing the champions league jersey and next week he’s basically playing as a loaner in a different standard of league, it’s not good for the psyche from my perspective.

Let’s see how things pan out with him — but my point we need him to up his game and consistent from week to week. Defensively we’ve been ok, but we concede and sometimes have trouble him just doing the basics.

On further review of the penalty I just wonder if Steffan had actually rushed out to help Fry we could have avoided the whole situation— just a thought. I’m sure the likes of Ramsdale would have and maybe Henderson. Let’s not forget we played a very high line today so perhaps Steffan should have been in a sweeper keeper role?
